Position Summary

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist I is responsible for conducting laboratory analyses on incoming specimens, delivering critical clinical data for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of medical conditions. This position ensures the overall quality, efficiency, and safety in executing assigned technical responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities


• Demonstrates expertise and adheres to testing protocols and policies by following quality assurance standards for equipment and workspaces, documenting corrective actions for any discrepancies.

• Prepares necessary reagents, maintains sufficient inventory for testing procedures, and manages supplies to minimize departmental waste and costs.


• Utilizes clinical judgment to prioritize tasks while identifying, troubleshooting, and proposing solutions to testing systems through appropriate departmental channels, including contacting specialists for assistance when needed.


• Aids in the review and modification of procedures and documentation related to accreditation, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards from various authorities, including but not limited to CAP, TJC, and OSHA.


• Maintains open and timely communication between shifts and with leadership regarding any issues, concerns, or challenges that may impact patient care or departmental operations.

• Engages in planning and executing changes through participation in staff meetings, task forces, or projects.

• Participates in competency assessment programs, where applicable.

Physical Requirements
Operates in a dynamic clinical environment. The role involves exposure to biohazardous (infectious) materials as well as chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards. Responsibilities may include standing, walking, stretching, stooping, bending, and lifting light (20 pounds) to moderately heavy (50 pounds) loads.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree is required, with eligibility for MT, MLS, or equivalent registry. MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification is required within one year of employment.
