Overview:

The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor is accountable for the comprehensive oversight of the Clinical Laboratory, which encompasses strategic planning, financial management, and the supervision and assessment of all departmental initiatives and services. This role ensures that the objectives of the laboratory are met in an effective, efficient, and economical manner.

Key Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline is mandatory. Certification as an ABHI-registered histocompatibility technologist or ASCP-registered Flow Specialist (SCYM) or ASCP registered Medical Technologist is essential.
  • A minimum of five years of supervisory or leadership experience is required.
  • Experience in HLA is necessary, with Flow experience being advantageous.
  • The role involves leading a team of 15 direct reports, including one Supervisor and two Team Leaders, to ensure optimal operational performance.
  • Responsibilities include strategic planning, operational management, and active participation in recruitment and staff development, leveraging expertise in HLA.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the daily operations of designated sections of the laboratory, ensuring adherence to quality assurance protocols, scheduling, equipment maintenance, and inventory management.
  • Ensures compliance with all corporate and regulatory standards (CAP, TJC, OSHA) to maintain readiness within the assigned department.
  • Collaborates with leadership to formulate long-term operational strategies concerning services, programs, capital, and human resource planning, including recommendations for necessary resources.
  • Assists in the preparation of annual operational and capital budgets, addressing variances within specified timelines.
  • Manages human resource activities within the department, including timely performance evaluations and maintaining accurate employee records. Coordinates the orientation process for new hires.
  • Conducts technical or clinical testing as needed to support laboratory operations and ensure the functionality of patient testing systems.

Equipment and Tools:

  • Responsible for the safe operation of all laboratory equipment, including analyzers, processing machinery, computers, and safety devices.

Educational Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree is required. A minimum of five years of prior supervisory or managerial experience in a laboratory environment is preferred. Relevant certifications (MT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), HTL(ASCP), or CT(ASCP)) are required for roles involving technical or clinical testing. Advanced educational qualifications are preferred.
