Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in fostering a collaborative and supportive environment within the Head Start Program. This position involves providing essential assistance to teachers and ensuring a nurturing atmosphere for children.

Key Responsibilities:

Classroom Management and Educational Support

  • Take on the responsibilities of the lead Teacher during their absence.
  • Assist in the execution of the classroom curriculum and document necessary adjustments for primary educators.
  • Observe and address the individual needs of children effectively.
  • Ensure that all learning environments are clean, safe, and developmentally suitable.
  • Encourage healthy eating habits and engage with children during meal times.
  • Facilitate the development of self-help skills among children.
  • Support classroom educators in promoting self-regulation in children through positive reinforcement techniques.

Family Involvement

  • Encourage parent participation and support school readiness initiatives to strengthen home-school relationships.
  • Assist Family Advocates in outreach and recruitment efforts.

Program Compliance and Professionalism

  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold a high standard of professionalism.
  • Provide coverage for classroom needs during staff absences and other designated times.
  • Adhere to all relevant regulations and guidelines pertaining to early childhood education.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and families.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and attend required meetings.
  • Support activities aimed at enhancing school readiness and family engagement.
  • Perform additional duties as required to meet program needs.

Qualifications:

A degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred, along with relevant teaching experience.

  • High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Must be pursuing a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or a relevant degree.
  • Possession of an EEC Teacher Preschool certificate is required or in progress.
  • Experience working with diverse and low-income families is preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of an active educational setting.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are necessary.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is essential to accommodate the needs of families.
  • Proficiency in English is required; bilingual candidates are encouraged.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is preferred or must be obtained shortly after hiring.
  • Completion of background checks is mandatory prior to employment.
