Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Family Support Specialist will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team within the case management framework to deliver extensive services to children and families in the Program. This role requires a demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships and engage effectively with low-income families from diverse cultural backgrounds in a compassionate and respectful manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the achievement of educational and family stability objectives based on an assigned caseload and family needs evaluation.
  • Conduct home visits and conferences with each family, adhering to program Performance Standards.
  • Exhibit proficiency in computer usage and maintain precise case documentation.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of activities, including outreach to community organizations to identify and secure resources for families, ensuring compliance with all ERSEA (Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance) criteria, and managing vouchers and payment collections.
  • Coordinate and provide interpretive services, transportation, and additional support services as required or requested by parents.
  • Promote school readiness initiatives and encourage parent involvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on the program's requirements.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) with at least 2 years of experience in the Human Services sector, particularly in case management.
  • Ability to cultivate positive relationships and work effectively with low-income families from diverse cultural backgrounds in a compassionate and respectful manner.
  • Preferred familiarity with the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and language/literacy needs of young children.
  • Possession of a car and a valid Driver's License is required.
  • A flexible schedule is necessary to accommodate the needs of children and families, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English is essential.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are advantageous.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is preferred or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Must provide documented proof of a current physical examination, negative TB test, and proof of MMR immunity (Hepatitis B immunity is recommended).
  • A suitable CORI, SORI & DCF background check must be on file prior to employment.
  • A suitable fingerprint check must be completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Ability to work effectively with and meet the needs of individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures, and identities, including underserved communities and various racial groups, socioeconomic statuses, nationalities, and languages, to support the agency's mission of fostering a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization for both employees and clients.

Supervisory Role: None

Travel Requirements: Travel is necessary for home visits, meetings, training, and off-site events.

Physical Requirements: This position is highly active and involves standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items weighing over 50 pounds.

Work Environment: This role operates within a professional office setting and utilizes standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
