Position Summary:

The Culinary Support Specialist plays a vital role in the kitchen by assisting in the preparation of various food items with a focus on safety and efficiency. Responsibilities include receiving and unpacking food deliveries, ensuring the accuracy of supplies received, and discarding any spoiled or contaminated items. This role also involves dishwashing and maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of food items according to provided instructions.
  • Package food items appropriately for delivery.
  • Clean and sanitize all food preparation tools and equipment before and after use.
  • Maintain cleanliness of food surfaces, refrigerators, ovens, freezers, and microwaves.
  • Alert the supervisor promptly regarding any incidents or concerns related to food safety.
  • Address spills and leaks immediately to prevent accidents.
  • Follow proper food storage protocols to minimize spoilage.
  • Monitor inventory levels and notify the supervisor of low stock to ensure uninterrupted food preparation.
  • Prepare and label food rotation items accordingly.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a food handler's credential or willingness to obtain as required.
  • Understanding of food safety and health regulations.
  • Ability to adhere to proper food handling procedures.
  • Team-oriented with effective communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capability to stand for extended periods and perform some lifting tasks.

Travel Requirements: Minimal/local.

Work Environment: Kitchen setting within a childcare context.

  • Must provide documented proof of a current physical examination, negative TB test, and proof of MMR immunity (Hepatitis B immunity is recommended). EEC-BRC (CORI) check and fingerprinting must be completed prior to hiring.

Physical Requirements: This position regularly requires the employee to sit, walk, and stand, as well as use hands repetitively for handling or operating standard kitchen equipment. Occasional kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be necessary. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
