Position Summary:

The Educational Support Specialist is tasked with fostering a collaborative and supportive environment within the Early Childhood Education framework, ensuring that teachers have the necessary assistance in the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

Classroom Management and Educational Support

  • Take on the responsibilities of the Lead Teacher during their absence.
  • Assist in executing the classroom curriculum and document adaptations for primary educators to utilize in assessment tools.
  • Observe and cater to the individual needs of children.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and developmentally suitable environment (including gym, outdoor spaces, and classrooms).
  • Encourage healthy eating habits and engage in discussions during shared meals.
  • Facilitate the development of self-help skills in children (such as dressing, toileting, and hygiene practices).
  • Support classroom educators in promoting self-regulation among children through consistent and positive guidance strategies.

Family and Community Engagement

  • Encourage parental involvement and assist in school readiness initiatives to strengthen home-school relationships as directed by supervisors.
  • Collaborate with community outreach efforts to engage families.

Program Compliance and Professionalism

  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold a high standard of professionalism.
  • Provide classroom coverage during staff absences and for planning purposes.
  • Assist with intake processes as needed, following supervisor direction.
  • Adhere to the mission and values of the Greater Lawrence Community Action Council and related programs.
  • Comply with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to early childhood education.
  • Establish effective communication with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Participate in cross-functional activities as assigned by supervisors.
  • If bilingual, may be requested to assist with translation services.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities and attend regular staff meetings.
  • Support initiatives aimed at enhancing school readiness and parental involvement.
  • Perform additional duties as required by program needs.

Qualifications:

A degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred, along with relevant teaching experience.

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Must be working towards a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or a relevant degree within the first year of employment.
  • Possession of an EEC Teacher Preschool certificate or in the process of obtaining one is necessary.
  • Experience working with low-income, culturally diverse, and at-risk populations is preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of an active educational setting, including lifting and moving items.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently.
  • Must maintain positive relationships with parents, children, and colleagues.
  • Punctuality and reliability are essential.
  • Access to reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are required.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is necessary to accommodate the needs of children and families.
  • Proficiency in English is required; bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are a plus.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is preferred or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Must provide documentation of a current physical exam, negative TB test, and proof of immunizations.
  • Successful completion of background checks is required prior to employment.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and support the organization's commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel for meetings and training may be necessary.

Physical Requirements: This role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift heavy items throughout the day.

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional educational setting, utilizing standard office equipment.
