Duties Summary

Engages in complex professional engineering tasks related to the design, installation, operation, and upkeep of mechanical systems and equipment. This role includes reviewing and analyzing engineering plans and specifications to ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards, along with performing additional related responsibilities as necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts comprehensive office and field evaluations of proposed engineering projects, providing recommendations on design, equipment selection, and installation locations.
  • Performs both preliminary and final acceptance testing of mechanical systems.
  • Implements periodic assessments to evaluate the operational efficiency of existing systems, suggesting corrective measures as needed.
  • Reviews engineering plans and specifications for mechanical components to ensure adherence to applicable codes.
  • Supervises data collection and analysis related to system performance.
  • Examines operational reports and schedules to identify areas for improvement.
  • Manages requisitions for necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Collaborates with architects and engineers to clarify technical code interpretations.
  • Prepares detailed technical reports and correspondence.
Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience equivalent to:
  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution,
  • Three years of professional experience in mechanical engineering,
  • Possession of a valid professional mechanical engineering license in the State of Hawai'i, and
  • A valid State of Hawai`i driver's license or an equivalent valid driver's license.
Knowledge and Skills

Proficient understanding of mechanical engineering principles, practices, and techniques; familiarity with engineering mechanics, materials science, thermodynamics, and hydraulics; ability to conduct various tests on materials and equipment; and knowledge of relevant code requirements.

Ability to effectively apply mechanical engineering principles, interpret guidelines, and prepare comprehensive engineering documentation.
