Duties Summary

The role involves performing complex engineering tasks related to the evaluation, preparation, and analysis of electrical designs, plans, and specifications to ensure compliance with electrical codes and departmental standards. Responsibilities include the approval of designs, plans, specifications, materials, or methods proposed, along with other related duties as necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess various electrical designs, plans, and specifications submitted by architects and engineers for compliance with established codes and standards.
  • Provide recommendations for amendments to the Electrical Code.
  • Approve or suggest approval or rejection of plans and specifications that require technical decisions.
  • Design and analyze electrical systems for power distribution, street lighting, traffic signals, alarms, and communication systems.
  • Evaluate electrical designs for diverse buildings and structures, including water systems and pumps.
  • Verify the accuracy of calculations and assumptions regarding requirements and capacities.
  • Review plans for major buildings that involve intricate computations and interpretations of the Electrical Code.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and departmental personnel regarding technical interpretations of the Electrical Code.
  • Travel to construction sites to conduct field studies of electrical systems and prepare findings reports with recommendations.
  • Draft contracts and specifications for equipment as needed.
  • Research and analyze new materials and devices to determine their suitability.
  • Prepare technical reports and correspondence.
  • May oversee junior engineers and technical staff.
Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience equivalent to:
  • A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Three years of professional experience in electrical engineering.
  • Registration as a professional electrical engineer in the United States at the time of application.
  • Ability to travel independently as required.
Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, engineering mathematics, design techniques for electrical systems, and the National Electrical Code is essential. The ability to prepare and review electrical plans, conduct field inspections, analyze designs, and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders is crucial.
