Program Overview:

Type of Program: Prevention and Early Intervention
Target Population: Families and youth in need.

The Differential Response (DR) initiative aims to assist families identified by child welfare services, minimizing the necessity for formal child welfare intervention. This program serves families and youth within the community, offering needs assessments, treatment planning, rehabilitation, therapy, and case management services, all centered around family-focused care.

POSITION SUMMARY

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 am - 5 pm

In alignment with the agency's vision and mission, this role involves providing support and coaching to caregivers while offering a parental perspective across various settings. The specialist will facilitate a mutual understanding among individuals and groups, grounded in the agency's twelve service principles. By leveraging personal and professional experiences, the specialist will foster credibility, instill hope for a brighter future, demonstrate unconditional acceptance, and assist in problem-solving. This role also involves advocating for family-friendly practices by integrating a parent's viewpoint into routine operations and program development. The specialist will provide training and consultation to staff and others, enhancing awareness and effectiveness in parent-professional partnerships to meet family needs. Participation in program and community meetings is essential to amplify parent voice, choice, access, and involvement throughout the service delivery process.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilize personal and professional experiences to offer peer support to parents and caregivers.
  • Provide information about the agency and its processes to parents and caregivers.
  • Assist in organizing various support services for families, including events and recognition activities.
  • Guide families in decision-making and planning based on their unique needs.
  • Collaborate in Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings to ensure family members have a voice and choice in the process.
  • Identify community resources and connections for families.
  • Serve as a consultant to promote mutual understanding between families and service providers.
  • Offer culturally informed support to parents and caregivers.
  • Help families establish and maintain natural support systems and connect with community resources.
  • Model effective coping strategies for parents and caregivers.
  • Provide insights from a caregiver's perspective within agency support structures.
  • Assist in designing and implementing training on the parental perspective.
  • Employ conflict resolution skills as needed.
  • Engage in continuous learning to enhance family and youth engagement.
  • Manage schedules effectively to address the needs of multiple families and stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency standards.
  • Ensure staff accountability to service delivery principles focused on family voice, choice, access, and process.
  • Participate in service improvement initiatives.
  • Attend program and system meetings as required.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support departmental needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to articulate the experiences and perspectives of a parent or caregiver of a child with complex needs, typically gained through personal caregiving experience.
  • A minimum of [number] years as a parent or caregiver of a child with special needs.

Other Requirements

  • Completion of therapeutic crisis intervention and agency training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some college education is preferred.
