Opportunity Overview

The role entails providing expert guidance in the gathering, identification, and synthesis of observational and spatial data across various biological, physical, and earth science domains. Support is extended to technical personnel and project leaders in environmental initiatives and permitting tasks. Responsibilities may encompass aiding in the formulation of processes and frameworks related to water resources, air quality, pollution management, cultural impacts, and the preservation of environmental integrity by identifying, managing, and preventing disturbances to ecological systems and species due to human activities.

Your Contributions

Assist in the collection, identification, and aggregation of observational, spatial, and environmental data from diverse samples including air, soil, water, and sludge for various projects and surveys.

Uphold quality control standards and protocols to ensure precise measurements and statistical evaluations of environmental data.

Engage in fundamental professional environmental science tasks related to ecological systems and water resources, validating site characteristics and providing technical support on a range of environmental matters.

Contribute to the creation of technical documentation summarizing research findings and conclusions, ensuring comprehensive, accurate, and succinct reporting through electronic systems, field notes, and software applications.

Adhere to safety protocols and site-specific procedures, which encompass the maintenance of sample collection, laboratory records, and documentation.

Assist in the upkeep and calibration of equipment and tools, troubleshoot or report malfunctions, and conduct inventory management activities.

Support technical teams and project managers in identifying and assessing environmental risks, providing insights and analyses for low-level threat mitigation and remediation efforts to minimize environmental and public health impacts.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute project tasks effectively.

Assist in the preparation of work plans and coordination of fieldwork permits.

Complete training on assigned responsibilities.

Demonstrate responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.

Undertake additional responsibilities as dictated by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.

1 to 3 years of experience in environmental science, conducting surveys, fieldwork, habitat assessments, and/or construction monitoring.

Experience with GIS software and Trimble GPS units, along with proficiency in utilizing technology for data collection.

Strong analytical skills and familiarity with research methodologies, local/regional ecology, and relevant species/discipline.

Well-versed in applicable environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping standards.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of conveying ideas effectively to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.

Self-motivated with a keen attention to detail, adept at multitasking and prioritizing responsibilities in a dynamic environment.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team to achieve business objectives.

Basic proficiency in business writing, office automation, and communication tools.

Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP's health, safety, and anti-harassment policies.

Flexibility to work schedules that align with project-specific demands, which may extend beyond typical work hours.

Occasional travel may be necessary based on project requirements.

Expected Salary: $68,900 - $94,710

This compensation range reflects WSP's good faith belief regarding the potential salary for this position, based on the successful applicant's qualifications and internal equity considerations.
