Position: Aquatic Safety Officer
Employment Type: Part-time, Nonexempt
Work Schedule: Year-round, up to 19.75 hours/week
This position is continuously open for applications and will be filled as needed.
Role Summary: The Aquatic Safety Officer is tasked with utilizing training and sound judgment to make independent, responsible decisions in a professional manner without direct oversight. This role involves the vigilant monitoring of the safety of swimmers and visitors, executing safety and guest-service protocols as trained, and adhering to facility policies and safety regulations. Additional responsibilities include performing light maintenance tasks and engaging in various guest-service operations as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain constant surveillance of swimmers and guests within assigned areas, ensuring their safety at all times.
- Conduct rescues and provide emergency care as necessary, collaborating with team members during incidents.
- Enforce compliance with facility rules and procedures among guests, actively engaging in service delivery.
- Address inquiries from guests regarding programs, activities, and policies.
- Perform basic cleaning and maintenance duties, including cleaning common areas and restrooms as assigned.
- Manage pool covers and mats, ensuring proper application and removal.
- Participate in ongoing training sessions to enhance skills and teamwork.
- Respond constructively to feedback and accept guidance, maintaining accountability in resolving conflicts or performance issues.
- Engage in departmental initiatives that promote continuous learning and improvement.
- Carry out other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of swimming pool safety, lifeguarding techniques, emergency response, and safety protocols.
Skills: Proficient in lifeguarding techniques, emergency care, CPR, AED, first aid, and effective communication with guests and colleagues.
Abilities: Ability to integrate training and judgment to make informed decisions independently; keen observation skills to monitor swimmer safety; effective in emergency situations; proficient in interpreting and implementing facility policies; strong communication and teamwork skills; punctual and prepared to fulfill responsibilities; open to feedback and committed to personal development.
Physical Requirements: This role involves frequent standing, bending, swimming, and lifting. Employees must be capable of performing physical tasks such as lifting and towing individuals in water and managing equipment. Meeting the pre-course requirements for American Red Cross certification is essential.
Personal Protective Equipment: Employees are required to have specific safety gear on hand while on duty, including gloves and CPR masks.
