Department Overview:

Corporate Accounting is responsible for the precise and timely preparation of the organization's consolidated financial statements, variance analyses, account reconciliations, and other assessments that support regulatory filings.

The work performed by our team is crucial to the organization and presents challenges and variety, including the application of appropriate accounting treatments and analyses under GAAP, FERC, Tax, and SEC reporting.

Position Summary:

We are in search of a highly driven leader who is adept at navigating a dynamic and demanding work environment. In this role, you will implement financial initiatives that align with the company's strategic objectives and guide your team to operate within a world-class accounting framework.

You will cultivate and sustain essential relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include coaching, mentoring, and providing guidance to a team of accounting analysts.

This position offers a comprehensive overview of both the organization and the utility sector, paving the way for numerous opportunities within the company.


The role is hybrid, requiring attendance at the Oakland General Office 1-2 times a week or as business needs dictate.

Salary Information:

A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area

Minimum:
$105,000

Bay Area Maximum:
$169,000

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the monitoring and preparation of monthly reports and the recording of assets, liabilities, and other transactions.
  • Reviews the month-end closing process, including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Evaluates monthly variance analyses.
  • Examines supporting documentation for regulatory filings and interprets policies, reporting requirements, rules, and regulations.
  • Provides direction to team members in researching and resolving accounting issues, and may lead the resolution of complex accounting or disclosure matters.
  • Identifies, investigates, and coordinates the resolution of accounting discrepancies.
  • Offers guidance on suitable techniques and methodologies for analyzing regulatory decisions.
  • Assists in developing research objectives, designing approaches, and analyzing accounting issues.
  • Supports analysts in pinpointing areas for process enhancement at the desk level.
  • Identifies process improvements to mitigate risks during account reviews, enhance communication with business partners, and increase efficiencies during monthly close procedures.
  • Maintains and strengthens relationships with key business partners to ensure timely capturing of transactions in financial statements and address potential issues.
  • Supervises and contributes to departmental and organizational project initiatives aimed at process improvement and understanding financial impacts.
  • Actively communicates issues and key activities to management.
  • Coordinates activities across multiple functional groups and collaborates effectively in taskforce teams.
Qualifications:

Minimum:
5 years of relevant accounting experience, including supervisory experience with the ability to coach and manage staff.
Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Desired Skills & Abilities:
Experience with Alteryx or Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, etc.) is highly desired.
Knowledge of GAAP and SEC regulations.
Public accounting experience.
Strong technical accounting skills.
Ability to coordinate research and provide insights on potential implications for the line of business and/or the organization.
Solid understanding of FERC uniform chart of accounts.
Proven problem-solving skills with a capacity for creative thinking and issue resolution.
Ability to articulate the rules and regulations governing assigned accounts to department management.
Proficient in utilizing analytical techniques to dissect and resolve complex problems.
Able to convey complex ideas and findings to diverse audiences.
