Department Overview:

Corporate Accounting is dedicated to delivering precise and timely consolidated financial statements, variance analyses, account reconciliations, and other critical analyses that support regulatory filings.

The work conducted within this department is vital to the organization, presenting challenges and variety, including the application of appropriate accounting treatments and analyses under GAAP, FERC, Tax, and SEC reporting.

Position Summary:

We are in search of a highly driven leader who thrives in a fast-paced and demanding environment. In this role, you will implement financial initiatives aligned with the company's strategic goals and guide your team to achieve excellence in a world-class accounting department.

You will cultivate and sustain essential relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, while also coaching, mentoring, and guiding a team of accounting analysts.

This position offers a comprehensive overview of the organization and the utility sector, paving the way for numerous opportunities within the company.

The role is hybrid, requiring occasional in-person attendance at the Oakland General Office based on business needs.

Salary Information:

A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area
Minimum: $105,000
Maximum: $169,000

Job Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly reports and the recording of financial transactions.
  • Review the month-end closing process, including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Analyze monthly variances and review supporting documentation for regulatory filings.
  • Provide guidance to team members in researching and resolving accounting issues.
  • Identify and coordinate the resolution of complex accounting and disclosure matters.
  • Assist in developing research objectives and methodologies for analyzing accounting issues.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce risks.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with key business partners to ensure timely transaction recording and issue resolution.
  • Contribute to departmental and company-wide initiatives aimed at process enhancement.
  • Communicate significant issues and activities to management effectively.
  • Coordinate efforts across various functional groups and collaborate within taskforce teams.
Qualifications:

Minimum:
5 years of relevant accounting experience, including supervisory experience with a focus on coaching and managing staff.
Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Desired Skills & Abilities:
Experience with Alteryx or Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, etc.) is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and SEC regulations.
Public accounting experience is a plus.
Exceptional technical accounting skills.
Ability to conduct research and assess implications for the business.
Solid understanding of FERC uniform chart of accounts.
Proven problem-solving skills with a creative approach to issue resolution.
Ability to articulate complex accounting rules and regulations to management.
Strong analytical skills to deconstruct and solve intricate problems.
Able to convey complex ideas and findings to diverse audiences.
