Position Overview

The Category Manager role is available at either the Associate or Intermediate level, contingent upon the qualifications, education, and experience of the selected candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the procurement process from the initial specification and identification of needs to the issuance of contracts and purchase orders.
  • Assess supply sources and devise optimal pricing strategies along with warranty provisions.
  • Employ strategic sourcing methods (such as alliances, auctions, blanket agreements, and master service contracts) to secure necessary products and services while maximizing savings.
  • Identify potential new suppliers and innovative products or technologies.
  • Build and sustain professional relationships with suppliers and partners, adhering to the highest ethical standards as outlined in the PPL Standards of Integrity and Supply Chain Policies.
  • Formulate negotiation strategies and company positions on routine and moderately complex contracts, collaborating with the Office of General Counsel to ensure adequate commercial protections are in place.
  • Analyze supplier claims and disputes, consulting with senior sourcing management to negotiate resolutions related to procurements.
  • Serve as the corporate authority for assigned small to mid-sized supply chain categories, possessing in-depth knowledge of market dynamics, supplier networks, emerging technologies, and regulatory considerations.
  • Authorized to award contracts up to $1,000,000 for individual procurements prior to requiring additional management oversight.
  • Act as the primary liaison for suppliers within the designated category.
  • May be assigned to an Emergency Response or Outage role as necessary.
  • Physical presence in the office or on-site is required for effective collaboration and coordination with colleagues and direct reports.
  • May also be assigned to emergency and storm response roles, necessitating availability beyond regular hours during critical situations.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Associate Category Manager

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the Electric Utility supply chain, particularly in Distribution and/or Transmission and Substations.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and databases.
  • Demonstrated skills in problem assessment and resolution.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

Intermediate Category Manager

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, supply chain, or a related field, or 5 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in logistics, materials, or services procurement.
  • Knowledge of supply chain dynamics and market trends related to products, equipment, and services.
  • Fundamental understanding of business law, commercial terms, and associated legal matters.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Electric and Gas Utility supply chains, particularly in Distribution and/or Transmission and Substations.
  • Certification as a Purchasing Manager (C.P.M) or as a Certified Professional in Supply Management (C.P.S.M), or other relevant Supply Chain certifications.
  • Background in Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement methodologies.
  • Strong negotiation and analytical capabilities.
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and databases.
  • Demonstrated skills in problem assessment and resolution.
  • Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to establish credibility with internal clients and external suppliers.
  • Proven project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Work Environment:

Standard office setting. This position offers a hybrid work model, combining in-office and remote work options.
