Position Overview

The Category Manager role at PPL Services Corporation is available at either the Associate or Intermediate level, depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the procurement cycle from the identification of needs to the issuance of contracts and purchase orders.
  • Assess potential suppliers and create effective pricing strategies along with warranty provisions.
  • Implement strategic sourcing techniques (such as alliances, auctions, blanket agreements, and master service contracts) to procure necessary goods and services while maximizing savings.
  • Discover new suppliers and evaluate innovative products and technologies.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with suppliers, adhering to the highest ethical standards as outlined in PPL's Supply Chain Policies.
  • Formulate negotiation strategies and company positions on standard and moderately complex contracts, collaborating with the Office of General Counsel to ensure appropriate commercial protections are in place.
  • Analyze supplier claims and disputes, consulting with senior sourcing management to resolve these issues effectively.
  • Serve as the corporate authority for assigned supply chain categories, possessing in-depth knowledge of market dynamics, supplier networks, emerging technologies, and regulatory considerations.
  • Authorized to approve contracts up to $1,000,000 for individual procurements without requiring additional management review.
  • Act as the primary contact for suppliers within the designated category.
  • May be designated for Emergency Response or Outage roles as needed.
  • Required to be physically present in the office to facilitate direct interaction and coordination with colleagues.
  • May also be assigned special roles during emergencies or storms that require after-hours work.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

For Associate Category Manager:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the Electric Utility supply chain (including Distribution and/or Transmission and Substations).
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and databases.
  • Demonstrated ability in problem assessment and resolution.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

For Intermediate Category Manager:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, supply chain, or a related field, or 5 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in logistics, materials, or services procurement.
  • Knowledge of supply chain and market dynamics related to products, equipment, and services.
  • Basic understanding of business law and commercial terms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Electric and Gas Utility supply chains (including Distribution and/or Transmission and Substations).
  • Possession of a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (C.P.S.M) certification.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement methodologies.
  • Strong negotiation and analytical capabilities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and databases.
  • Proven problem-solving and assessment skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to build credibility with internal clients and external suppliers.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Work Environment:

Standard office setting with a hybrid work model combining in-office and remote work.
