Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chef to join our team at Mount Desert Island Hospital. As a key member of our food service department, you will be responsible for overseeing the preparation and presentation of high-quality meals for our patients, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Food Preparation and Production: Plan, prepare, and cook a variety of meals and snacks for our customers, ensuring that all dishes meet our high standards of quality and presentation.
  2. Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate the work of our kitchen staff, providing guidance and support to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  3. Inventory Management: Manage our food inventory, ordering supplies and ingredients as needed to ensure that we have the necessary resources to meet our culinary needs.
  4. Sanitation and Safety: Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, adhering to all relevant health and safety regulations and guidelines.
Requirements
  • Education and Training: High school diploma or equivalent, plus one year of specialized cooking school or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Two years of institutional cooking experience, with a proven track record of success in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Certifications: Certified sanitation course, with a strong understanding of food safety and handling procedures.
Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, with exposure to high temperatures, steam, and wet floors. You must be able to lift 55 pounds or more, and be able to stand for long periods of time.
