Position Overview:
We are in search of a Senior Research and Development Electrical Engineer with specialized knowledge in high voltage phenomena.
Your responsibilities will include supporting the design and execution of experiments related to lightning, high energy electrical breakdown, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) low energy electrical breakdown, along with advanced research initiatives.
This role necessitates a solid understanding of fundamental principles, practices, and procedures associated with high voltage and its effects.Moreover, you will lead test execution, advance research initiatives, and act as a liaison for clients and partners from various national laboratories.
Key responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to:Leading the design, execution, and analysis of low energy breakdown and ESD experiments.
Overseeing the design, execution, and analysis of severe lightning testing and experiments.
Conducting experimental design, fabrication, execution, analysis, and reporting.
Collaborating with clients to ensure high-quality experimental design, execution, and analysis.
Enhancing the performance of Sandia's lightning and ESD facilities.
Promoting critical facilities through tours, collaborations, and presentations at conferences.
Engineering roles are available in the Electrostatic Discharge Lab or the Sandia Lightning Simulator Lab.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected candidate must be able to work onsite.
Compensation Range:
$109,300 - $217,400
*The salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, along with any applicable geographic salary adjustments.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM discipline.
Two years of relevant experimental engineering or scientific experience.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM field.
Proven experimental research experience in lightning or high energy electrical breakdown.
Demonstrated experimental research experience in ESD or low energy electrical breakdown.
Experience in simulating low and high energy electrical breakdown.
Ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic team, adapting to changing priorities.
Experience in leading and completing multiple projects and programs.
Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with various levels of internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through on multiple concurrent tasks.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Proficiency in software such as Matlab, Excel, Word, MS Project, and PowerPoint.
About Our Team:
The Electrical Sciences department is responsible for defining and managing deliverables for electromagnetic qualification programs related to weapon systems, as well as the development of new initiatives.
Our expertise encompasses electrostatic discharge, lightning/electrical breakdown, plasma physics, electromagnetics, advanced power electronics design and manufacturing, advanced controls, and the development and analysis of innovative materials and components.
The department collaborates closely with other skilled and motivated teams and organizations.
This team is part of the Radiation, Electrical and High Energy Density Science (REHEDS) Research Foundation at Sandia.Application Process:

Security Clearance Requirements:
Sandia is mandated by the DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review, which includes checks of personal references, credit history, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold dual citizenship, your ability to obtain a security clearance may be affected.
Applicants offered a position at Sandia will undergo a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information, if the role necessitates a DOE security clearance.
