The Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) Radiation Protection Program is on the lookout for a Health Physics Dosimetrist to join our Radiation Protection Dosimetry program (RPD).

As a Health Physics Dosimetrist, you will deliver technical assistance in both external and internal dosimetry, ensuring accurate radiological dose assessments while upholding national accreditation standards. Your role will also encompass various Health Physics and Radiological Engineering tasks, along with support during urgent radiological incidents and emergency responses.

On any given day, your responsibilities may include:
- Assisting RPD Health Physics/Radiological Engineers in executing all Dosimetry services.

- Leading and overseeing the efforts of Health Physics Technologists in delivering Dosimetry services.

- Providing guidance to Radiation Protection (RP) and Line Customers regarding the utilization of Dosimetry services in experimental and production settings within Sandia's operational domains.

- Advising RP and Line Customers on the correct application of Department of Energy (DOE) regulations and SNL policies relevant to Dosimetry services.

Required Qualifications:

- A Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a related physical science field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; an Associate's degree in the aforementioned fields plus four years of relevant experience in Health Physics or Dosimetry, or a High School diploma with eight years of relevant experience in Health Physics or Dosimetry.

- Experience in a dosimetry program with or without DOELAP Accreditation.

- Background in software development and/or database management.

- Experience in mentoring Health Physics Technologists and other Health Physicists/Radiological Engineers.

- Proven ability to manage Dosimetry projects and provide guidance to RP and Line Customers within SNL's operational domains.

- Strong oral and written communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.

- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

- Certification by the American Board of Health Physics or in the process of obtaining certification.

- Experience in operational environments such as DOE or NRC facilities or Naval Reactors.

- Active DOE "L" or "Q" level security clearance.

About Our Team:
The Radiation Protection Organization offers essential radiation protection services to Sandia line organizations and oversees the Corporate Radiation Protection Program.

Services Include:

Translating DOE directives and federal regulations into Sandia-specific requirements and guidance; developing tools to identify and manage hazards associated with radioactive materials and radiation-generating devices; providing trained personnel to support radiological activities and operations throughout the Laboratories; and conducting workplace sampling and monitoring to ensure the effectiveness of radiological controls.

The Organization collaborates with the Corporate Radiation Protection Safety Committee to set goals, measure performance, and conduct assessments to gather data for continuous improvement in the safe execution of radiological operations.

Application Duration:

This posting will remain open for application submissions for a minimum of seven calendar days, including the posting date. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting period at any time.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is mandated by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review, which includes checks of personal references, credit history, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.

Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you possess multiple citizenships (e.g., U.S. and another country), your ability to secure a clearance may be affected.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia will undergo a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or materials if the duties of the position necessitate a DOE security clearance.

Substance abuse, illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct, or other indicators of untrustworthiness may lead to a clearance being denied or revoked by DOE, resulting in the inability to fulfill assigned duties and potential termination of employment.

Equal Employment Opportunity:

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status, and any other protected class under state or federal law.

NNSA Requirements for Medical Portable Electronic Devices:

If you possess a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment, you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs if employed by Sandia National Laboratories.

If you have a MedPED and are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, additional steps may be necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Essential Functions:

If offered the position, you may be required to demonstrate your capability to perform certain physical aspects of the role, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
