Job Overview

The role of the Fire Alarm Designer is crucial in ensuring the safety and compliance of fire alarm systems within various projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and organize personal workload while guiding the efforts of fellow design team members.
  • Provide official approval for technical drawings, contingent upon relevant licensure or certification.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of intricate designs to ensure they meet engineering standards and codes.
  • Collaborate with design team members to create comprehensive technical submissions, including detailed schematics and drawings.
  • Supervise CAD Technicians in preparing project documentation for complex systems, covering operational details, drawings, and calculations.
  • Perform detailed calculations to confirm that system designs adhere to established codes and standards.
  • Enhance project efficiency by overseeing multiple CAD Technicians working concurrently on various projects.
  • Engage in pre and post-project design discussions and attend relevant coordination meetings.
  • Prepare material lists to facilitate the construction process.
  • Review completed submissions with CAD Technicians to ensure equipment compatibility and compliance with project specifications.
  • Support project managers post-order receipt to assist in maintaining or improving project profitability.
  • Investigate equipment applications and ensure compatibility with project requirements.
  • Address inquiries from clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities as they arise.
  • Work alongside the Project Manager during system commissioning to validate system performance against initial designs.
  • Provide technical support to field staff and design team members for design-related inquiries.
  • Assist sales and project management teams with pre-sales estimation support.
  • Guide and mentor CAD Technicians in delivering project outputs.
  • Fulfill CAD responsibilities on assigned projects when necessary.
  • Oversee and review the work produced by CAD Technicians.
  • Monitor project hours to ensure accurate coding and adherence to estimated hours.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Drafting (AutoCAD) preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • NICET Level III certification or higher is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the design of fire and security systems.
  • Proven expertise in drafting/CAD, computer skills in estimating/pricing, and project management.
  • Experience in Fire Alarm, Security, Nurse Call, CCTV, or the Construction Industry.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret architectural and electrical diagrams.
  • Knowledge of various electronic building systems.
  • Advanced understanding of mechanical systems and their integration with fire alarm systems.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, and Adobe.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
