We are seeking a skilled professional to take on the role of Fire Alarm Designer. This position is crucial for the development of fire alarm systems tailored for various projects.

Key Responsibilities

The Fire Alarm Designer will:

  • Manage and prioritize personal workload while guiding the efforts of other design team members.
  • Provide approved drawings where applicable, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of complex initial designs to propose optimized and code-compliant solutions.
  • Collaborate with fellow design team members to create comprehensive technical submissions, including detailed schematics and drawings.
  • Supervise CAD Support Technicians in preparing submissions for intricate systems, encompassing system operations, drawings, and calculations.
  • Perform detailed calculations to confirm that system designs adhere to codes and standards.
  • Enhance project efficiency by overseeing multiple CAD Support Technicians working concurrently on various projects.
  • Engage in design meetings and coordinate with customers and site teams as necessary.
  • Develop materials lists to support construction efforts.
  • Review completed submissions with CAD Support Technicians to ensure equipment application and compatibility with specifications.
  • Provide ongoing project support to project managers to help maintain or enhance project margins.
  • Investigate equipment applications and outside purchases to ensure compatibility.
  • Address inquiries from customers, contractors, and regulatory authorities as they arise.
  • Work alongside the Project Manager during system commissioning to validate system performance against design specifications.
  • Assist field technical staff and design team members with technical inquiries and support.
  • Offer pre-sales estimation assistance to sales and project management teams.
  • Guide and mentor CAD Support Technicians in delivering project outcomes.
  • Fulfill CAD responsibilities on assigned projects when necessary.
  • Oversee and review the output from CAD Support Technicians.
  • Monitor project hours to ensure accurate coding and adherence to estimated hours.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Drafting (AutoCAD) preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
  • NICET Level III certification or higher is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in designing Fire and Security systems.
  • Proven expertise in drafting/CAD, computer skills in estimating/pricing, and project management.
  • Experience in Fire Alarm, Security, Nurse Call, CCTV, and/or the Construction Industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and electrical diagrams proficiently.
  • Knowledge of various electronic building systems.
  • Advanced understanding of mechanical systems and their integration with fire alarm systems.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, and Adobe.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
