Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled professional to take on the role of a Fire Alarm Designer. This position is crucial for the successful design and implementation of fire alarm systems within our projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and organize personal workload while guiding the efforts of fellow design team members.
  • Provide approved designs and drawings, contingent upon relevant licensure or certification.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of complex initial designs to ensure compliance with engineering standards and codes.
  • Collaborate with design team members to create comprehensive technical submissions, including detailed schematics and drawings.
  • Supervise CAD Support Technicians in the development of project submissions for intricate systems, covering aspects such as system operation and calculations.
  • Perform detailed calculations to confirm that system designs adhere to applicable codes and standards.
  • Enhance project efficiency by overseeing multiple CAD Support Technicians working concurrently on various projects.
  • Engage in pre/post project design meetings and participate in customer coordination sessions as necessary.
  • Develop material lists to streamline the construction process.
  • Review completed submissions alongside CAD Support Technicians to ensure equipment compatibility and compliance with project specifications.
  • Provide project support to project managers post-order receipt to help maintain or enhance project profitability.
  • Evaluate equipment applications, investigate external purchases, and ensure compatibility of equipment.
  • Address inquiries from customers, contractors, and regulatory authorities as they arise.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager during system commissioning to validate system performance against the established design.
  • Offer technical support and design guidance to field staff and other design team members.
  • Assist the sales and project management teams with pre-sales estimates.
  • Mentor CAD Support Technicians to ensure the successful completion of project deliverables.
  • Fulfill CAD responsibilities on assigned projects when necessary.
  • Oversee and evaluate the work produced by CAD Support Technicians.
  • Monitor project hours to ensure accurate coding and adherence to estimated hours.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or Drafting (AutoCAD) preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
  • NICET Level III certification or higher is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the design of fire and security systems.
  • Proven expertise in drafting/CAD, computer skills in estimating/pricing, and project management.
  • Experience in fire alarm, security, nurse call, CCTV, and/or the construction industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and electrical diagrams proficiently.
  • Knowledge of various electronic building systems.
  • Advanced understanding of mechanical systems and their integration with fire alarm systems.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, and Adobe.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
