Position Overview:

The Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) operates as an advanced practitioner, delivering and overseeing care for patients, families, and communities within a defined healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Evidence-Based Practice:
  • Facilitates comprehensive, evidence-based education for patients and families, addressing social and psychological barriers, and promoting health equity.
  • Assesses and implements evidence-based practices, utilizing quality improvement strategies to enhance outcomes.
  • Collaborates in the creation, execution, and assessment of care strategies and best practices tailored to patient needs.
  • Provides education and competency validation, mentoring both new and experienced staff through departmental initiatives.

Relationships and Advocacy:
  • Acts as an advocate and resource for patient care coordination within the healthcare system.
  • Collaborates to address complex patient and family objectives to enhance health outcomes.
  • Reviews and refines patient care plans, working with interdisciplinary teams to customize interventions.
  • Identifies and addresses variances in patient care processes, developing tailored plans to overcome barriers.

Critical Thinking:
  • Recognizes safety factors for patients and staff, developing strategies to ensure safety throughout care delivery.
  • Guides staff and students in applying critical thinking to manage complex patient scenarios.

Technical Proficiency:
  • Collaborates to design and implement processes that leverage new technologies to improve patient care.
  • Evaluates patient cases for compliance with nursing standards, reporting findings to leadership.
  • Partners to develop educational programs that enhance clinical expertise and staff development.

Leadership:
  • Maintains open communication with leadership to identify trends affecting quality care delivery.
  • Engages in initiatives related to maintaining accreditation and specialty designations.
  • Supports academic programs to enrich educational experiences.
  • Facilitates care coordination activities to streamline patient transitions through the healthcare continuum.
  • Serves as a role model, recognizing and encouraging peer advancement.

Qualifications:
  • Current professional nursing licensure.
  • Graduate degree in nursing.
  • National certification as Clinical Nurse Leader required upon hire or enrollment in a relevant nursing program.
  • Two years of relevant nursing experience.
  • Current certifications in emergency cardiovascular care as applicable.
  • Proven experience in evidence-based clinical practice.
  • Strong communication skills and effective time management.
  • Ability to synthesize evidence for informed decision-making.
