POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the laboratory manager, you will engage in a variety of intricate procedures that require significant independent judgment. Your role will involve conducting chemical, microscopic, bacteriological, or specialized tests to generate data essential for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. You will perform these tests in accordance with established protocols and methodologies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Receive specimens from various sources including physicians, laboratories, and hospitals, and conduct complex quantitative analyses.

2. Generate reports for the tests conducted, ensuring that quality control standards are adhered to prior to report issuance.

3. Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times, including end-of-day cleaning responsibilities.

4. Provide guidance and support in the training of new personnel as needed.

5. Troubleshoot and ensure the proper functioning of laboratory equipment, whether automatic, semi-automatic, or manual.

6. Participate in the assessment of new or modified testing techniques.

7. Attend meetings as required.

8. Prepare chemical reagents and stains necessary for testing procedures.

9. Adhere to established Standards of Behavior.

10. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Registration as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (MT ASCP) or equivalent experience.

2. A Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or in biological sciences, along with completion of an A.M.A. approved Medical Technology Program, providing a thorough understanding of clinical tests and applicable procedures.

3. Possess the manual dexterity and visual acuity necessary for specimen preparation and microscopic screening.

4. Demonstrate analytical skills to interpret and analyze test results, perform calculations, and calibrate instruments.

5. Exhibit technical proficiency in operating all laboratory equipment and conducting routine and advanced clinical diagnostic tests.
