About the Role

NRG is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Operations Manager to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our power plant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Safety: Provide leadership and emphasize the importance of safety and environmental programs by monitoring completion of safety concerns, SSIP and incident investigation action items, attending required safety and environmental meetings, and supporting EKPI goals.
  • Plant Leadership: Serve as a member of the plant leadership team and be capable of acting as temporary plant manager or operations manager as needed.
  • Work Planning and Coordination: Coordinate the development and use of work scope packages for each activity performed during unit outages, including all related pre- and post-outage activities.
  • Work Order Management: Oversee the development of work order plan packages that include labor, material, equipment, Lockout-Tagout, technical support, and Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Outage Resource and Performance Strategies: Lead the development and implementation of outage resource and performance strategies to effectively and efficiently perform all outage work.
  • Outage Planning and Budgeting: Oversee the development of plans, schedules, and budgets for all planned, maintenance, and forced outage work, including scope growth.
  • Day-to-Day Operations: Lead the day-to-day performance and coordination of all outage work, including resource allocation, work interference planning, and the common use of shared services.
  • Contractor and Vendor Management: Oversee the selection and use of contractors and vendors to perform outage work in accordance with company policy.
  • Outage Controls and Performance Reporting: Ensure the effective use of outage controls, performance reporting, communications, and plan revisions.
  • Productivity and Teamwork: Promote productivity and teamwork in Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations with open communication, timely decision making, and the use of personal leadership skills to set high standards of performance while providing the direction necessary to achieve that performance.
  • Outage Work Order Lists: Oversee the development and management of outage work order lists to support fast, efficient planning and execution of maintenance and forced outages.
  • Employee Development: Promote and support the development of technical, leadership, and business skills of employees to carry out responsibilities in a competitive environment.
  • Performance Feedback: Provide regular feedback to employees on their performance to allow them to capitalize on their strengths and focus on opportunities for improvement.
  • Area Goals and Objectives: Ensure the development and implementation of assigned area goals, objectives, and initiatives.
  • Safety and Environmental Programs: Support and emphasize the importance of safety and environmental programs and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Customer Reviews: Review performance with customers/clients and address opportunities for improvement.
  • Cost-Effective Resource Utilization: Ensure all resources are utilized in a cost-effective manner, especially major costs such as contracted services, craftsmen time, and overtime.
  • Work Assignment and Accountability: Assign work and hold employees accountable for their performance.
  • Field Inspections: Perform field inspections of job sites and work in progress.
  • Problem Resolution: Recognize problems and be proactive in helping to resolve them.
  • Work Plans and Schedules: Ensure the development, implementation, and monitoring of work plans and schedules in their area of responsibility.
  • External Service Providers: Ensure work performed by external service providers is in support of objectives, responsibilities, and contractual agreements.
  • Employee Relations: Maintain a working relationship with employees consistent with personnel policies and procedures.
  • Resource Coordination: Coordinate the application of internal and external resources to their area of responsibility to support maintenance activities, projects, and programs.
  • Long-Range Outage Plans: Develop and maintain long-range, equipment-specific outage plans to ensure cost-effective maintenance through the implementation of predictive, preventive, and cost analysis tools.
  • Offsite Outage Work: Provide for the performance, coordination, and inspection of outage-related work performed offsite at other facilities.
  • Company Metrics: Responsible for achieving at or above target scores for company metrics for work management.
  • Third-Party Coordination: Responsible for oversight of third-party, contract, and vendor coordination, including approving charges, bid package evaluation, evaluation, and selection process, asbestos management, and scaffolding.
  • Quality Control Programs: Coordinate the development and implementation of quality control programs for outage management and execution.
  • Outage Program Support: Provide visible and active support for the plant outage program.
  • Awareness Training: Provide awareness-level training for the plant organization on outage planning and performance standards.
  • Outage Procedures: Develop and maintain written outage procedures to improve plant outage performance and to ensure consistent execution.
  • Continuous Improvement: Maintain focus on continuous improvement and employ industry best practices for outage and work management.
  • Lockout/Tagout Program: Ensure that employees correctly use the lockout/tagout program in order to promote safe operations and maintenance.
  • Shift Scheduling and Staffing: Develop and maintain plant O&M, Major Maintenance, and CapEx budgets as they pertain to the Maintenance Department.
