Position Overview
The Operations Maintenance Supervisor is tasked with overseeing daily operations, providing guidance, and coaching team members to ensure a productive workforce aligned with company policies. Key responsibilities encompass work planning, on-the-job training, coordinating maintenance tasks, conducting inspections, and initiating procurement processes for tools, materials, and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrates leadership by prioritizing safety and environmental initiatives, ensuring completion of safety tasks, and participating in required safety meetings.
- Acts as a member of the plant leadership team, capable of stepping in as a temporary plant or operations manager when necessary.
- Coordinates the creation and application of work scope packages for activities during unit outages, including all related pre- and post-outage tasks.
- Supervises the development of work order packages that encompass labor, materials, equipment, Lockout-Tagout procedures, technical support, and Quality Assurance standards.
- Leads the formulation and execution of outage resource and performance strategies to ensure efficient and effective completion of all outage-related work.
- Oversees the planning, scheduling, and budgeting for all maintenance and forced outage work, including scope adjustments.
- Manages daily performance and coordination of all outage work, including resource allocation and planning for work interference.
- Ensures compliance with company policies when selecting and utilizing contractors and vendors for outage work.
- Responsible for effective outage controls, performance reporting, communication, and plan adjustments.
- Encourages productivity and collaboration among Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations through open communication and decisive leadership.
- Maintains and manages outage work order lists to facilitate swift and efficient planning and execution of maintenance and forced outages.
- Supports the development of technical, leadership, and business skills among employees to thrive in a competitive landscape.
- Provides constructive feedback to employees regarding their performance, helping them leverage strengths and identify areas for improvement.
- Ensures the establishment and execution of goals, objectives, and initiatives for the assigned area.
- Emphasizes the significance of safety and environmental programs while ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
- Engages with customers/clients to review performance and identify opportunities for enhancement.
- Ensures efficient resource utilization, particularly regarding major costs like contracted services and overtime, while monitoring expenditures and reporting on area performance.
- Assigns tasks and holds team members accountable for their performance.
- Conducts field inspections of job sites and ongoing work.
- Identifies issues proactively and assists in their resolution.
- Ensures the development, implementation, and monitoring of work plans and schedules within their area of responsibility.
- Guarantees that external service providers' work aligns with objectives and contractual agreements.
- Fosters a working relationship with employees that adheres to personnel policies and procedures.
- Coordinates the application of internal and external resources to support maintenance activities and projects.
- Develops and maintains long-term, equipment-specific outage plans to ensure cost-effective maintenance through predictive and preventive measures.
- Ensures the performance, coordination, and inspection of outage-related work conducted offsite at other facilities.
- Aims to achieve or exceed target scores for company metrics related to work management.
- Oversees third-party contract and vendor coordination, including charge approvals and bid evaluations.
- Coordinates the development and implementation of quality control programs for outage management.
- Actively supports the plant outage program.
- Provides training for the plant organization on outage planning and performance standards.
- Creates and maintains written outage procedures to enhance plant outage performance and ensure consistent execution.
- Focuses on continuous improvement and applies industry best practices for outage and work management.
- Ensures adherence to lockout/tagout protocols to promote safe operations and maintenance.
- Develops appropriate shifts, schedules, staffing, and response programs to manage costs and improve performance.
- Manages plant O&M, Major Maintenance, and CapEx budgets related to the Maintenance Department.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma with 10 years of power plant operations or maintenance experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field with 7 years of equivalent experience in industrial processes, refineries, or power plants.
- Experience in leading and supervising power plant personnel, including bargaining unit employees.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Combined Cycle Power Plant operations.
- Understanding of quality processes and formal programs.
Additional Skills and Abilities:
- Strong leadership capabilities with a solid grasp of leadership principles.
- Knowledge of NRG values and corporate objectives is preferred.
- Exhibits behavior that promotes employee involvement, innovative thinking, adaptability, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
- Excellent teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to work rotating shifts and overtime as required.
- This position necessitates the ability to safely handle and inspect equipment with hazardous energy, chemicals, and wastes as defined by safety regulations.
- Requires familiarity with and appropriate response to identified hazards, including equipment repairs and chemical containment.
- Must frequently climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and work from elevated platforms, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be capable of working outdoors in adverse weather conditions and using personal protective equipment as necessary.
