The Legal Honors Program provides a unique opportunity for a select group of attorneys with less than two years of post-J.D. experience to gain valuable exposure while working on a diverse range of significant legal matters within the Office of the Kansas Attorney General (OAG).

This program is structured as a two-year engagement. Honors Attorneys will be placed in one of the OAG's five legal divisions (Civil Division, Criminal Division, Public Protection Division, Office of the Solicitor General, or Special Litigation & Constitutional Issues Division), where they will receive mentorship and a variety of assignments from all sections or functional areas within that division. This experience is designed to help attorneys establish a strong foundation in the full spectrum of the division's responsibilities, as well as develop essential skills that will benefit their future careers. A brief overview of each division is accessible on the Attorney General's official website.

Participants can anticipate gaining substantial in-court experience throughout this program. The OAG seeks dynamic attorneys who are passionate about ensuring that Kansans fully enjoy their rights as American citizens. We are looking for thoughtful and bold attorneys who are committed to upholding the Office's standards of integrity, efficiency, and professionalism.

Upon mutual agreement, an Honors Attorney may transition into an Assistant Attorney General or Assistant Solicitor General role following the completion of the Honors Program, contingent upon the agency's staffing requirements. However, selected candidates are not obligated to commit to more than two years with the office.

The statements above are intended to convey the general nature and level of work performed by individuals in this position. They may not encompass all job duties performed by employees in this role, and additional responsibilities may be assigned.
