Position Overview

The Building Automation Engineer plays a pivotal role in executing and overseeing Chinook's implementation projects, which vary in scale and complexity, with a primary focus on building automation and mechanical systems. This position will report to a Program Manager or Business Team Leader and will also support business development initiatives, including the preparation of fee proposals. As a client-facing role, it necessitates substantial interaction with clients and the coordination of both internal and external resources to meet project expectations, timelines, and financial goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, review, estimate, and procure building automation systems and their components, integrating them into energy solution projects or deploying them independently.
  • Collaborate with other project managers to secure necessary technical resources from within the organization.
  • Develop and implement risk identification and management strategies tailored to the project's complexity.
  • Ensure compliance of building automation systems with client specifications.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with project stakeholders, including building owners, contractors, architects, engineers, and management.
  • Adhere to Chinook Systems engineering standards and applicable industry standards such as ASHRAE, ASME, NFPA, and BCxA to guarantee compliance and quality delivery.
  • Set and manage project expectations with team members and stakeholders continuously.
  • Utilize open building automation protocols and communication methods, including BACnet, LON, MODBUS, Ethernet, and Web Services, to fulfill client requirements.
  • Plan, schedule, and monitor project timelines and milestones using appropriate project management tools.
  • Prepare and present progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
  • Review and prepare designs, drawings, bills of materials, diagrams, and graphics related to building automation.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential challenges, and formulate contingency plans.
  • Foster and develop essential business relationships that contribute to the team's success, including connections with suppliers, subcontractors, and partners.
  • Program control systems based on the Sequence of Operation.

Required Skills

  • Dependable and punctual, with the ability to work independently while maintaining workflow.
  • Strong prioritization skills and sound judgment.
  • Effective communication skills at all organizational levels.
  • Experience with Microsoft Networks, HTML, Ethernet/IP, and cybersecurity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC control, building automation systems, and energy management software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications and project management tools, including MS Project and risk management applications.
  • Experience with MS Visio is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Strong programming, graphics, and integration capabilities.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is required, along with a minimum of seven years of continuous experience in managing building automation projects.

Niagara Certification is preferred.
