Health Information Specialist for Correctional Facility

We are seeking a skilled Health Information Technician to join our team at the Correctional Reception Center. As a member of our staff, you will play a critical role in maintaining accurate and up-to-date health records for inmates.

Job Summary

This is a 26-week assignment that requires a high level of attention to detail and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will have experience in health information management and be proficient in MS Word and Excel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Compile health information by reviewing, cataloging, and checking medical reports for completeness and organizing them for placement in files.
  • Prepare health information forms, including preparing charts for new admissions and preparing requests for specific reports or certificates.
  • Compile and type statistical reports such as daily and monthly census, Medicaid days, admissions, discharges, and length of stay metrics.
  • Filing reports into health information records, maintain information in logs and filing systems, retrieve records as needed.
  • Provide information from health records after ensuring the appropriateness of the request, and coordinate with other departments regarding health records procedures.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of health information technology, confidentiality of patient information, and regulatory requirements for medical record-keeping.
  • Skill in using a word processor and calculator.
  • Ability to address problems with few variables in a familiar context and write routine business documentation following standard procedures.
