Job Description

Position Overview:

The Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing the SMT manufacturing lines, ensuring optimal processes, programming, scheduling, and supervision of all SMT personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and coordinate the operations of SMT manufacturing lines and processes.
  • Develop SMT and Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) programs using offline software tools.
  • Establish reflow profiles to maintain the integrity of solder joints in accordance with internal quality standards and IPC-A-610 guidelines.
  • Assess and enhance manufacturing methods to minimize downtime by leveraging knowledge of tooling, production equipment capabilities, change-over techniques, estimated production times, staffing needs, and quality control standards.
  • Analyze workforce and workspace utilization to maximize efficiency.
  • Engage with management, engineering, and other teams regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other factors to streamline production processes.
  • Determine optimal cycle times and provide necessary training to ensure zero-defect quality and timely delivery.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Execute additional tasks as assigned by supervisory and management personnel.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an electronics manufacturing services (EMS) environment, specifically in the Surface Mount Technology area, with a strong technical background.
  • Demonstrated experience in efficient switch-overs and managing multiple concurrent jobs.
  • Experience in manufacturing processes involving both lead and lead-free chemical streams.
  • A strong work ethic with the ability to inspire and motivate team members.
  • A seasoned leader capable of selecting, teaching, coaching, and mentoring staff to uphold quality-driven operations.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • A proactive problem solver with a sense of urgency.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A minimum of 2 years in a supervisory, lead, or management role.

Educational Background:

A Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in manufacturing/industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field, or equivalent exceptional experience.

Additional Requirements:

Willingness to work alternate shifts and overtime as required.

Physical Demands:

This role requires constant standing, walking, visual acuity, simple grasping and reaching, keyboarding, mouse input, as well as effective communication abilities. The working environment is primarily within a manufacturing setting, with exposure to noise and chemicals.
