POSITION SUMMARY:

The Registered Nurse is accountable for delivering high-quality nursing care to patients in a clinical setting, adhering to established protocols and practices. This role collaborates with physicians and staff to ensure coordinated patient care and serves as the primary communication link among patients, medical staff, and physicians.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

This position reports directly to the Clinical Supervisor or Physician.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May include oversight of clinical personnel within the department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers comprehensive nursing care to patients, including the administration of prescribed medications and treatments in line with nursing standards.
  • Maintains examination rooms with necessary supplies and ensures cleanliness. Prepares a list of required medical supplies and assists physicians during patient examinations and treatments, including phlebotomy as assigned.
  • Monitors, documents, and communicates patient conditions and responses to medications and treatments to physicians. Provides education to patients and families regarding diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition, and health maintenance.
  • Prioritizes appointment scheduling for patients in urgent situations. Welcomes patients and prepares them for examinations, gathering necessary information.
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and relevant information, ensuring accurate posting of test results and examination findings.
  • Handles incoming patient inquiries related to treatment and provides instructions regarding medications and treatment plans. Prepares prescriptions as required.
  • Performs clerical tasks, which may include the preparation of forms and correspondence.
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Upholds patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Collaborates with staff for cross-training and assists in educating other staff on clinical equipment and procedures as needed. The jobholder must demonstrate competencies relevant to the position.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess an RN degree; a BSN is preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of one year of professional nursing experience is required, with clinic experience preferred.

LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

Must maintain a valid RN license for the state of North Carolina.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Understanding of professional nursing theories, regulations, and practices for effective patient care delivery.
  • Awareness of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ability to apply and adapt nursing principles, methods, and techniques for ongoing patient care.
  • Competence in identifying issues and proposing solutions.
  • Proficiency in record-keeping, report writing, and correspondence.
  • Capability to uphold quality control standards.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.
  • Strong communication skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role involves a combination of office and clinical settings, with frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other conditions typical of a healthcare environment.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

The position requires a variety of activities, including standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting. A full range of motion is necessary, including the ability to handle and lift patients. Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination are essential. The role involves standing and walking for extended periods and occasionally lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds. The ability to work under stress or irregular hours is also required.
