Operating Room Scrub Technician

Position Summary
The Operating Room Scrub Technician, under the guidance of the Director and/or Clinical Manager/Coordinator, is tasked with the preparation of instruments and materials for surgical interventions, employing appropriate methodologies. This role provides technical support as assigned and assists in patient procedures within the designated unit's Skills Summation.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
* Prioritizes and addresses technical requirements to align with patient conditions.
Supports the healthcare team during surgical operations by integrating knowledge of anatomy and physiology with the surgical process.
Ensures safe patient care during the intra-operative phase, including the management of specimens and medication labeling.
Equipment Management
* Prepares necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for specific surgical procedures, anticipating the sequence of events and requirements of the surgeon and patient.
Maintains, monitors, and replenishes equipment and supplies as required.
Opens surgical instruments for each case appropriately and anticipates the physician's needs throughout the procedure.
Department Collaboration
* Accurately communicates provider preferences to the RN.
Facilitates efficient room turnovers as a scrub technician, ensuring appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment are available and assisting the team as necessary.
Contributes to the updating of physician preference cards as needed.
Participates in the training and education of new staff regarding aseptic techniques and procedures.
Compliance and Safety
* Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards that impact patient care and safety, as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Practices in a safe and cost-effective manner.
Stays informed and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies relevant to the employee's responsibilities.
Ensures all required certifications and/or licenses are current and valid prior to expiration.
Completes all mandatory training modules and job-specific education within the designated timeframe.
Maintains accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, EMR entries, and patient responses.
Responsible for promptly reporting any safety-related incidents through the appropriate channels; attends all safety training programs; performs work safely; monitors the work environment for potential safety issues and ensures compliance among colleagues.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED - Required
Completion of OR Technician education - Preferred
Certification and Licensure
BLS - Required upon hire
Experience
1 year of OR Tech Experience or Completion of NAH OR Tech Training Program - Required
