Position Summary
The Operating Room Scrub Technician, under the guidance of the Director and/or Clinical Manager/Coordinator, is tasked with the preparation of surgical supplies and equipment for procedures, employing suitable techniques. This role involves providing technical support as assigned and directed. The Scrub Technician plays a crucial role in assisting and/or executing patient procedures that align with their unit-specific Skills Summation. This position operates within a hospital-based environment.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
* Effectively prioritizes and addresses technical requirements to accommodate patient conditions.
Supports the healthcare team during surgical interventions by integrating knowledge of anatomy and physiology with the surgical process.
Ensures safe patient care throughout the intra-operative phase, including the handling and labeling of specimens and medications.
Equipment Management
* Prepares the necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for specific surgical procedures, anticipating the sequence of events and the needs of both the surgeon and the patient.
Maintains, monitors, and replenishes equipment and supplies as required.
Opens surgical instruments for each case appropriately and anticipates the physician's requirements during each operation.
Department Collaboration
* Accurately communicates provider preferences to the nursing staff.
Facilitates efficient turnover of surgical rooms as a scrub technician, ensuring the availability of appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment while assisting the team as necessary.
Participates in updating physician preference cards as needed.
Engages in the training and education of new employees and other staff regarding aseptic techniques and processes.
Compliance and Safety
* Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards impacting patient care and safety, as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Practices in a safe and cost-effective manner.
Stays informed and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies relevant to the employee's area of responsibility.
Ensures all certifications and/or licenses are current and valid prior to expiration, if required for the position.
Completes all mandatory training modules and job-specific training within the designated timeframe.
Maintains timely and accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, EMR entries, and patient responses.
Responsible for promptly reporting any safety-related incidents through the appropriate channels; attends all safety training programs; performs work safely; monitors the work environment for potential safety issues and ensures others are also working safely.

High School Diploma or GED - Required
Completion of OR Technician education - Preferred
Certification and Licensure
BLS - Required upon hire
Experience
1 year of OR Tech Experience OR Completion of NAH OR Tech training Program - Required
