Operating Room Scrub Technician

Position Summary
The Operating Room Scrub Technician, under the guidance of the Director and/or Clinical Manager/Coordinator, is tasked with the preparation of instruments and materials for surgical interventions, employing suitable techniques. This role involves providing technical support as assigned and assisting in patient procedures that align with the specific Skills Summation of the unit. The position operates within a hospital-based, inpatient environment.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care Responsibilities
* Effectively prioritizes and addresses technical requirements to align with patient conditions.
Assists the surgical team during procedures by integrating knowledge of anatomy and physiology with the surgical process.
Ensures safe patient care throughout the intra-operative phase, including proper handling of specimens and medications.
Equipment Management Duties
* Prepares necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for designated procedures, anticipating the sequence of events and the needs of both the surgeon and the patient.
Maintains, monitors, and replenishes equipment and supplies as required.
Correctly opens surgical instruments for each case and anticipates the physician's requirements during procedures.
Department Collaboration
* Accurately communicates provider preferences to the nursing staff.
Facilitates efficient turnover of surgical rooms as a scrub technician, ensuring the availability of appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment while assisting the team as necessary.
Contributes to the updating of physician preference cards as needed.
Participates in the training and education of new staff regarding aseptic techniques and processes.
Compliance and Safety
* Adheres to all regulatory and organizational standards impacting patient care and safety, as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Practices in a manner that is both safe and cost-effective.
Remains current with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that affect the responsibilities of the position.
Ensures that all required certifications and/or licenses are maintained and valid prior to expiration.
Completes all mandatory training modules and job-specific training within the designated time frame.
Maintains accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, electronic medical record entries, and patient responses.
Responsible for promptly reporting any safety-related incidents through the appropriate channels; attends all safety training programs; performs work safely; monitors the work environment for potential safety issues and ensures compliance among colleagues.
Qualifications
Education Requirements
High School Diploma or GED - Required
Completion of OR Technician education - Preferred
Certification and Licensure
BLS - Required upon hire
Experience Requirements
1 year of OR Tech Experience OR Completion of NAH OR Tech training Program - Required
