Operating Room Scrub Technician

Position Summary
The Operating Room Scrub Technician, under the guidance of the Director and/or Clinical Manager/Coordinator, is tasked with the preparation of instruments and equipment for surgical interventions, employing appropriate methodologies. This role encompasses providing technical support as designated and assisting in patient procedures that align with the specific Skills Summation of the unit. The position operates within a hospital-based environment.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
* Effectively prioritizes and addresses technical requirements to align with patient conditions.
Supports the healthcare team during surgical operations by integrating knowledge of anatomy and physiology with the surgical process.
Ensures safe patient care throughout the intra-operative phase, including the management of specimens and proper labeling of medications.
Equipment Management
* Prepares the necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for specific surgical procedures, anticipating the sequence of events and the needs of both the surgeon and the patient.
Maintains, monitors, and replenishes equipment and supplies as required.
Opens surgical instruments for each case appropriately, anticipating the physician's requirements during procedures.
Department Collaboration
* Accurately communicates provider preferences to the nursing staff.
Facilitates efficient turnover of surgical rooms as a scrub technician, ensuring the availability of appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment while assisting the team as necessary.
Contributes to the updating of physician preference cards as needed.
Participates in the training and education of new personnel and other staff regarding aseptic techniques and processes.
Compliance and Safety
* Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards that govern patient care and safety, as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Practices in a manner that is both safe and cost-effective.
Stays informed and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that affect the employee's area of responsibility.
Ensures that all required certifications and/or licenses are current and valid prior to expiration.
Completes all mandatory training modules and job-specific education within the designated timeframe.
Maintains timely and accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, electronic medical record entries, and patient responses.
Responsible for promptly reporting any safety-related incidents through the designated reporting tool; attends all safety training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors the work environment for potential safety issues and ensures that others are also working safely.

Education
High School Diploma or GED - Required
Completion of OR Technician education - Preferred
Certification and Licensure
BLS - Required upon hire
Experience
1 year of OR Tech Experience or Completion of NAH OR Tech Training Program - Required
