Our Approach

Our Builders Vision team consists of over 100 passionate individuals who activate our platform through three primary strategies to influence stakeholders and drive impact:

  • Capital Deployment: We utilize a diverse array of tools, including grants, direct investments, and fund investments, to support non-profit leaders, entrepreneurs, and fund managers. Our flexible capital tools allow us to operate across the entire capital spectrum, focusing on catalyzing additional investments in our sectors.
  • Partner Support: We are dedicated to empowering our partners by providing essential resources such as technical assistance, networking opportunities, impact measurement and management (IMM) support, and strategic guidance to enhance their success.
  • Advocacy for Change: We engage with influential audiences to accelerate the solutions we pursue through strategic communications, thought leadership, and participation in industry-wide initiatives and coalitions.

Position Overview

Builders Vision is seeking a Vice President of Investments to join the investment team for Builders Initiative, the philanthropic arm of Builders Vision.

This role is designed for individuals with investment experience who are passionate about making the planet healthier and more humane.

The Builders Initiative Investment Team (BIIT) manages the Builders Initiative Foundation endowment and Builders Bridge, a vehicle for catalytic impact investments.

The endowment focuses on market-rate ESG and impact opportunities at scale, while Builders Bridge emphasizes three key themes: Oceans, Food & Agriculture, and Energy Transition, having invested in over 70 companies and innovative fund impact managers since its inception.

The Vice President will primarily support investments in private impact funds and early-stage startups within the Energy Transition fund, which aims to scale innovative businesses in hard-to-abate sectors and climate justice-related investments.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 6-10 years of experience in investment-focused roles, including investment banking or consulting.
  • Essential underwriting experience.
  • Ability to assess various investment structures.
  • Demonstrated interest in the relevant industry sectors.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
  • University degree with a strong academic record; preference for technical/STEM or liberal arts backgrounds.
  • MBA or CFA charter preferred.
  • Proficient in business tools such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; comfortable with database/CRM tools.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Creative approach to deal structuring and strategy design.
  • A collaborative spirit and mentoring capability.
  • Comfortable with public speaking, both internally and externally.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop due diligence plans with guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Conduct sector-related research to identify impactful investment opportunities.
  • Manage the investment pipeline and related activities.
  • Collaborate with Energy team members on investment due diligence, including quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Work closely with Builders Vision's Impact Measurement & Management (IMM) team to implement tailored IMM frameworks.
  • Produce written and presentation materials to communicate investment and impact analyses to stakeholders.
  • Conduct market research and industry landscaping analyses as directed.
  • Support special investment projects as needed.
  • Monitor the Energy portfolio, including financial and impact reporting and regular check-ins with investees.
  • Master BIIT and BV tools, systems, and processes.
  • Collaborate with and support the success of other BIIT and BV Associates.
