Position Overview

Builders Vision is in search of a Senior Vice President of Investments to join the investment team for Builders Initiative, the philanthropic division of Builders Vision. This role is designed for individuals with investment experience who are passionate about contributing to a healthier and more humane planet.

The Builders Initiative Investment Team (BIIT) manages the Builders Initiative Foundation endowment and Builders Bridge, a vehicle for catalytic impact investments. The endowment focuses on market-rate ESG and impact opportunities at scale, while Builders Bridge emphasizes three key themes: Oceans, Food & Agriculture, and the Energy Transition. Since 2020, we have invested in over 70 companies and innovative fund managers. The 12-member Builders Initiative Investment Team collaborates closely with various teams across Builders Vision and serves as a thought leader in impact investing and our thematic sectors. Our mission to shift markets and minds for good often leads to the creation of new ideas, structures, and partnerships through our investment initiatives, aiming to provide innovative private sector solutions to urgent climate challenges.

The Senior Vice President will primarily focus on supporting investments in private impact funds and early-stage startups and businesses, particularly within the Energy Transition portfolio. This role involves underwriting and monitoring investments and engaging with senior staff internally and across various partner organizations.

Ideal Candidates:

  • 6-10 years of experience in investment-focused roles (funds or strategic), investment banking, or consulting, with essential underwriting experience.
  • Ability to evaluate a variety of investment structures (equity, project financing, etc.).
  • Demonstrated interest in the relevant industry sectors.
  • Comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Possess a university degree with a strong academic record; preference for technical/STEM or liberal arts backgrounds.
  • Hold an MBA or CFA charter.
  • Proficient in business tools such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; comfortable with database/CRM tools.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to adopt a creative approach to structuring deals and designing strategies.
  • A strong collaborator and mentor.
  • Comfortable with public speaking, both internally and externally.

  • Develop due diligence plans with guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Conduct sector-related research to identify high-impact investment opportunities.
  • Manage the investment pipeline and associated activities.
  • Collaborate with Energy team members on investment due diligence, including quantitative and qualitative analysis of impact fund managers and early-stage direct investments.
  • Work closely with Builders Vision's Impact Measurement & Management (IMM) team to create and implement IMM frameworks aligned with BV's impact objectives.
  • Produce written and presentation materials to communicate investment and impact analyses to stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • Conduct market research and industry analyses under the direction of senior colleagues.
  • Support special investment projects as needed, such as thematic impact investment landscapes or program-related investments in collaboration with foundation program officers.
  • Engage in ongoing monitoring of the Energy portfolio, including reviewing financial and impact reports, conducting regular check-ins with investees, and attending annual meetings for managers.
  • Develop expertise in BIIT and BV tools, systems, and processes.
  • Foster collaboration and support the success of other BIIT and BV Associates.
