Job Overview

As an EHS Program Manager, you will spearhead a dynamic team in a fast-paced operational environment, fostering a culture centered on safety, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.

Your role will encompass the development and execution of comprehensive safety programs, including industrial safety, laboratory safety, and environmental compliance, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards while promoting a secure and eco-friendly workplace.

You will oversee a cross-functional EHS team within a growing organization, engaging in various phases such as research and development, manufacturing, and operational processes. Your leadership will be pivotal in maintaining the overall health and safety of the facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of EHS professionals, fostering professional growth and development.
  • Design, implement, and sustain environmental, health, and safety initiatives to comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Identify potential risks and propose effective measures to mitigate them.
  • Enhance operational safety through the Job Hazard Analysis process.
  • Formulate strategies to decrease incident rates and promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Develop and execute emergency response plans, ensuring all employees receive adequate training.
  • Conduct EHS training sessions and safety orientations for new hires.
  • Encourage environmentally responsible practices across the organization.
  • Stay informed on all relevant EHS regulations and ensure organizational compliance.
  • Prepare and submit necessary regulatory documentation and reports.
  • Conduct inspections and audits to assess compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Manage hazardous materials programs, including inventory and disposal protocols.
  • Collaborate with vendors to enhance the facility's EHS standards.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams and external agencies to align safety objectives.
  • Facilitate open communication regarding EHS matters through safety committee meetings and training sessions.
  • Engage with operational staff to ensure effective hazard identification and mitigation.
  • Investigate incidents to determine root causes and implement preventive strategies.
  • Maintain accurate incident records and report findings to management and regulatory bodies.
  • Analyze safety performance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Drive results through the Objectives and Key Results (OKR) framework, leveraging key partnerships.
  • Act as a first responder and participate in the Emergency Response Team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience in safety programs and regulatory compliance.
  • Thorough understanding of applicable local, state, and federal EHS regulations.
  • Expertise in a specific EHS discipline; certification is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in conducting incident investigations and risk assessments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of EHS regulations and standards.
  • Able to thrive in an agile research and development environment.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proven success in cultivating a robust safety culture and reducing incident rates.
  • Collaborative team player with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to effectively manage and transfer knowledge.
  • Innovative thinker with a focus on efficiency in addressing challenges.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
  • Ability to navigate various environments, including confined spaces and elevated heights.
  • Comfortable working in diverse conditions, including outdoor elements and noisy environments.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
Safety and PPE Requirements
  • Experience in handling hazardous materials and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
  • Willingness to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
