Job Summary

As the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager, you will take the lead in guiding a diverse team within an operational framework that champions safety, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. Your key responsibilities will include the development and execution of safety programs across industrial and laboratory settings, ensuring regulatory compliance, and nurturing a safe and environmentally aware workplace. You will oversee a cross-functional EHS team in a dynamic environment encompassing various phases such as research and development, manufacturing, construction, and operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong collaboration skills, a lean business approach, and the ability to navigate complex challenges while aligning with the company's objectives and risk management strategies.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of EHS professionals, fostering professional growth.
  • Design, implement, and uphold environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Identify potential hazards and propose risk mitigation strategies.
  • Enhance operational safety through the Job Hazard Analysis process.
  • Formulate and execute plans aimed at reducing incident rates.
  • Establish emergency response protocols and ensure comprehensive employee training.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs, including safety orientations for new hires.
  • Encourage a culture of environmental responsibility and promote sustainable practices throughout the organization.
  • Stay informed about evolving environmental, health, and safety regulations and ensure organizational compliance.
  • Prepare and submit necessary regulatory reports and documentation.
  • Conduct inspections and audits to assess compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Manage hazardous materials programs, including inventory and disposal processes.
  • Collaborate with vendors to enhance the facility's environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Work with cross-functional teams and external agencies to align safety objectives.
  • Facilitate open communication regarding EHS matters through safety committee meetings and training sessions.
  • Engage with operational, maintenance, laboratory, and research staff to ensure hazard identification and mitigation.
  • Gain insights into workflows by interacting directly with employees on the floor.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents to determine root causes and implement preventive measures.
  • Maintain incident records and report findings to management and regulatory bodies as necessary.
  • Analyze safety performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Drive results through the Objectives and Key Results (OKR) framework while collaborating with key stakeholders.
  • Act as a first responder and participate in the Emergency Response Team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of management experience in safety management, regulatory compliance, and program development.
  • Thorough understanding of local, state, and federal EH&S regulations relevant to the industry.
  • Expertise in a specific EHS discipline, with preferred certification.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in conducting incident investigations and risk assessments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of EHS regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Able to thrive in an agile R&D environment.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proven success in cultivating a strong safety culture and reducing incident rates.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Quick and efficient problem-solving capabilities.
  • Prioritizes safety for oneself and others.
  • Proficient in knowledge management and transfer.

Physical Conditions
  • Ability to navigate ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and lifts.
