Overview: This role is situated within the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, specifically under the Office of Integrity and Compliance (OIC). The position plays a crucial role in advancing the organization's mission and vision by developing, executing, and sustaining comprehensive compliance initiatives, policies, and protocols.

Primary Objective: The main goal of this position is to offer strategic leadership and oversight of compliance efforts across the facility, ensuring a uniform and effective compliance framework.

Key Responsibilities: This position is designed to assist healthcare management by:

  • Acting as the primary liaison among various staff offices, facilitating information exchange and managing assignments.
  • Overseeing and tracking incoming requests from initiation to resolution.
  • Providing expert guidance on integrating compliance-related activities into operational functions.
  • Embedding the principles of the Office of Inspector General's compliance model into the Veterans Health Administration's compliance framework.
  • Distributing written guidelines that foster a commitment to compliance and address potential fraud areas, including billing and coding.
  • Conducting an annual comprehensive risk assessment and developing effective training programs to mitigate identified risks.
  • Establishing a process for receiving complaints while ensuring the confidentiality of complainants.
  • Maintaining visibility and an open-door policy to encourage reporting of compliance concerns.
  • Investigating and addressing systemic issues identified through various communication channels.
  • Formulating policies regarding the employment of individuals with sanctions.
  • Responding to allegations of misconduct and ensuring adherence to regulations.
  • Coordinating audits and evaluations to monitor compliance and address identified issues.
  • Reviewing compliance initiatives with senior management and recommending improvements.
  • Possibly chairing the Compliance Committee and providing regular updates to relevant stakeholders.
  • Analyzing audit outcomes and developing educational resources to address findings.
  • Managing online communication tools and ensuring compliance with applicable policies.
  • Creating long-term program plans and evaluating the effectiveness of compliance initiatives.
  • Identifying innovative solutions to administrative challenges affecting program objectives.
  • Developing guidelines for program operations and measuring success.
  • Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and promoting sustainable practices.

Work Schedule: The standard work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Flexible scheduling may be available at the supervisor's discretion. Telework options may also be discussed during the interview process.

Position Description: Health System Specialist

Qualifications: Candidates must meet all qualifications by the closing date of the announcement. Relevant education or specialized experience in healthcare administration or related fields is required.

Physical Requirements: The role is primarily sedentary, with occasional physical activity required for meetings or site visits.

Additional Information: This position may be eligible for telework, and details will be discussed during the interview process. The organization supports the use of telework to enhance productivity and prepare for emergencies.
