Position Overview

We are looking for several On-Call Catering Staff members who can adapt to varied schedules to support our vibrant on-campus catering operations for special occasions. This role involves a range of responsibilities including setup, food service, table bussing, and post-event cleanup. Evening and weekend availability is essential, with schedules fluctuating based on event needs.

Primary Duties:

  • Act as a representative of Roanoke College, demonstrating professionalism, courtesy, and respect in all interactions with students, community members, and the public.
  • Implement and uphold safety and sanitation protocols as directed by the Virginia Department of Health and Dining Services management.
  • Oversee all preparatory tasks and specific requirements for catered events.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and storage areas for catering supplies.
  • Collaborate closely with supervisors to ensure all event specifications are fulfilled.
  • Ensure timely execution of all catering services.
  • Safeguard and return all catering equipment after each event.
  • Work a flexible schedule aligned with event timelines.
  • Document final details on the event form upon completion of each event.
  • Adhere to and enforce policies and procedures set forth by Dining Services management.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma is mandatory.
  • Prior experience in the food service sector is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
Our staff is expected to exhibit courtesy, tact, and respect in all interactions with students, community members, and the general public. While no prior experience is necessary, catering or food service experience is preferred. This position is on-call for a duration of 12 months, with the majority of events occurring during the academic year. Uniforms and a non-slip shoe allowance will be provided. Additionally, as an employee of the college, you will have access to campus facilities such as the fitness center and library, enjoy discounts at the campus store, and receive complimentary admissions to various programs and events.
