Our dining services encompass a variety of foodservice operations, including all-you-care-to-eat options, well-known national brands, retail dining, catering, concessions, and food truck services.

We are looking to hire several Level 1 Cooks who are skilled in the precise and efficient preparation, portioning, cooking, and presentation of a wide range of hot and cold food items for both the dining hall and catering events.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook a variety of food items, accommodating special dietary needs, using various kitchen equipment for mixing, measuring, peeling, cutting, and trimming.
  • Ensure all food items are prepared according to the specifications outlined in production sheets and by dining service management.
  • Implement safety and sanitation practices as directed by health regulations and dining service management, maintaining a clean and sanitized work area.
  • Uphold the College's food quality standards regarding timeliness, flavor, and presentation.
  • Accurately complete production sheets in a timely manner to facilitate proper ordering and inventory management.
  • Inspect kitchen equipment for proper operation and report any repair needs.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • One year of relevant work experience is desirable.
  • Ability to operate standard commercial kitchen equipment effectively.
  • Capability to read and follow recipes independently.
  • Strong communication skills to interact professionally with colleagues and other departments.
  • Commitment to safety regulations and maintaining a clean kitchen environment.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Ability to meet attendance expectations, including punctuality and regularity.
  • Capacity to lift up to 40 pounds.

Our staff members are expected to demonstrate courtesy, professionalism, and respect in all interactions with students, the Roanoke College community, and the public. This full-time position follows the academic calendar and requires availability every other weekend. Uniforms and a non-slip shoe allowance are provided, along with complimentary meals on scheduled workdays.
