Lead Systems Engineer, IBMi Operations


The Lead Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations, management, and implementation of iSeries hardware and software environments. This includes the deployment of specialized software solutions and customer-centric systems, as well as managing system integrations and troubleshooting within client environments.

The Lead Systems Engineer will also be tasked with evaluating and recommending system designs and implementations for both pre-sales and post-sales deployment of customer-hosted and disaster recovery systems within a multi-tenant managed service provider framework.

This position requires full onsite presence and is not available for remote work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implementation of iSeries management and monitoring solutions.
  • Management and deployment of Virtual I/O servers.
  • LPAR virtualization strategies.
  • Power technology and platform architecture.
  • Implementation and migration of System iSeries.
  • Upgrading System iSeries operating systems.
  • Experience with PTF updates.
  • Administration of system components including security protocols, TCP/IP, BRMS, job management, performance analysis, system updates, and license oversight.
  • Management of tape solutions, including both physical and virtual tape libraries.
  • Collaborate closely with the Operations Support Center to enhance processes, procedures, and IT Service Management functions.
  • Participate in after-hours support escalations and 24/7 on-call duties.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, policies, processes, and internal security controls.
  • Conduct capacity management, planning, analysis, and reporting across the Multi-Tenant Managed Services & Support Power Platform.
  • Provide customer support both onsite and remotely.

Required Qualifications:

  • Over 15 years of experience in technology with a focus on iSeries administration.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Strong understanding of Data Center Operations and Infrastructure Design.
