The role of the Mortgage Lending Officer is a growing professional position within the financial services sector. This position involves recognizing policies and applying specialized knowledge to oversee and evaluate processes and data. It integrates established disciplinary knowledge within the specific area while maintaining a basic understanding of related industry practices. A solid grasp of team interactions is essential for achieving the objectives of the department.

Citi, a leading global financial services organization, manages approximately 200 million customer accounts and operates in over 160 countries and jurisdictions. The company offers a diverse range of financial products and services, including consumer banking, corporate and investment banking, securities brokerage, and wealth management.
Role Responsibilities:
- Engage with clients to discuss their financial circumstances, objectives, and lending requirements to assist them in achieving their home ownership aspirations.
- Gather and evaluate information regarding the client's financial situation, future plans, income, assets, debts, cash flow, and credit history.
- Conduct an initial assessment of the customer's eligibility for various lending solutions based on their financial data.
- Provide tailored recommendations on lending options that align with the clients' financial and personal goals.
- Inform clients about the implications, risks, and advantages of different lending alternatives.
- Promote Citi's brand and financial services to real estate agencies, builders, and other referral sources.
- Conduct client meetings outside of the office as necessary, adapting to clientele and market conditions.
- Collaborate with internal partners to enhance customer support and growth.
- Direct clients seeking non-lending financial services to the appropriate Citi professionals.
- Coordinate with Operations teams to ensure smooth transitions of loan applications and necessary documentation.
- Work closely with Processors and Closers to facilitate timely loan closings.
- Engage with key referral partners, such as Realtors and Builders, to drive mortgage business.
- Stay informed about local market trends and regulatory changes to better serve clients.
- Assess risks in business decisions, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations while safeguarding the firm's reputation.
Qualifications:
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in the mortgage industry.
- A minimum of 3 years of previous mortgage sales experience is required.
- Experience in residential mortgage lending is essential.
- A well-established book of business is preferred.
- Demonstrated capability in product sales is necessary.
- Familiarity with FHA/VA and conventional loan products is advantageous.
- Ability to explain financial calculations and pricing options clearly.
- Strong communication skills to guide clients through required documentation for loans.
- Knowledge of consumer lending laws and regulations, including fair lending and privacy standards.
- Exceptional customer service and relationship management skills.
- Expertise in general lending products and the mortgage industry.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
This position requires registration as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry, including fingerprinting and annual renewal of registration.
