Job Overview

Position Title: CDL Driver

Salary: $26-$28 per hour

JOB PURPOSE:

The CDL Driver is tasked with the secure and punctual transportation of solar panels and associated equipment to various distribution hubs, project locations, and clients. This position is vital in the logistics chain, ensuring that products arrive in optimal condition, thereby supporting the installation and operational schedules of solar energy initiatives. The driver is expected to uphold exceptional standards of safety, efficiency, and customer service while representing the organization professionally on the road and at delivery sites.

Moreover, during peak periods, this role will assist in warehouse operations. When performing warehouse duties, the CDL Driver and Warehouse Associate will be responsible for the efficient and accurate handling of incoming and outgoing solar panel products and related materials, utilizing forklifts and other warehouse machinery to guarantee the safe and timely distribution of goods to clients.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ONSITE DELIVERIES (80%):

  • Maintain Electronic Driver Logs and conduct Pre-Trip and Post-Trip inspections of the vehicle.
  • Adhere to DOT random drug and alcohol testing protocols.
  • Deliver quality service to clients through effective communication during the unloading process.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of all company products and services.
  • Load the vehicle and verify the accuracy of orders, compliance with weight regulations, and secure the load appropriately.
  • Keep precise records for submission to the Fleet Department.
  • Report any mechanical issues promptly to the Fleet Department.
  • Ensure safety and proper conduct on company premises, job sites, and during transit.
  • Utilize appropriate safety gear consistently, including hard hats and steel-toed footwear.
  • Address any incidents of property damage or personal injury immediately, including seeking medical assistance when necessary.
  • Perform warehouse tasks such as picking, packing, and shipping as required.
  • Operate warehouse forklifts for inventory management.

WAREHOUSE RESPONSIBILITIES (20%):

  • Provide excellent service to customers through effective communication.
  • Possess knowledge of all company products and services.
  • Count, verify, and manually unload incoming shipments.
  • Manually pick, pack, and ship products/orders.
  • Verify and manually load outgoing orders onto trucks.
  • Ensure safety and proper performance of helpers on company premises, job sites, and during transit.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the warehouse.
  • Utilize forklifts for inventory movement.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience with Truck Mounted Forklifts (TMF) is essential.
  • Minimum of 2 years of driving experience with the relevant equipment (combination vehicle with flatbed and TMF).
  • Familiarity with DOT legal strapping requirements.
  • Basic proficiency in the English language (reading and writing).
  • Highly organized and self-motivated.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Effective listening, reading, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to solve problems, high attention to detail, and manage time effectively.
  • Basic math skills for calculations in various units of measure.
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships with all organizational levels.
  • Basic technical skills for data entry and communication.
  • Must be capable of performing all required duties effectively.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License and DOT Medical Card are mandatory.
  • Forklift Training/Certification is advantageous.
  • Truck Mounted Forklift Training/Certification is required.
  • Familiarity with Samsara software for maintaining Electronic Driver Logs is a plus.
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record as per company policy.
  • Must meet all DOT requirements, including physical examination and drug screening.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is:

  • Regularly required to sit, talk, use repetitive motions, and hear.
  • Able to move 2,500 lbs with a pallet jack.
  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
  • Occasionally and repeatedly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and up to 150 pounds with team assistance.
  • Required to have specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is:

  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high and precarious places, outdoor weather conditions, and vibrations.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is typically loud.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to travel between 5% to 10% of the time.
