Position Overview:
The Claims Specialist II is responsible for the comprehensive evaluation and investigation of multi-line/multi-state commercial automobile claims to ascertain liability, identify coverage issues, and negotiate settlements. This role involves managing a portfolio of commercial automobile claims, including Collision, Other Than Collision, Uninsured Motorist Property Damage, Med-Pay, Bodily Injury, and Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist claims. Effective communication with customers, claimants, and legal representatives is essential, requiring professionalism and timeliness. Adherence to state-specific Department of Insurance regulations and company privacy policies is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exhibit strong telephone customer service skills and demonstrate empathy towards customers and claimants.
- Organize and prioritize tasks to meet productivity targets for pending claims.
- Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Document all verbal and written communications in the claims management system.
- Establish and maintain appropriate loss reserves.
- Conduct in-house investigations, including ordering police reports and assigning field tasks to approved appraisers or independent adjusters.
- Participate in necessary meetings or appearances related to assigned claims as directed by the Supervisor.
- Assess first and third-party injury claims and negotiate settlements within assigned authority limits.
- Prepare Serious Loss Reports (SLR) for claims with loss exposure of $300K or greater.
- Provide detailed instructions to approved business partners, emphasizing expense control on all claims managed.
- Prepare file transfer requests to Litigation Specialists when the insured is served with legal documents.
- Ensure compliance with DOI regulations relevant to the jurisdiction involved.
- Keep the Supervisor informed of significant developments in claims.
- Respond promptly to inquiries from brokers, agents, insured parties, claimants, attorneys, external partners, or internal staff.
- Pursue subrogation opportunities when applicable.
- Efficiently process all total loss vehicles with the company salvage buyer.
- Attend all company-sponsored training sessions as scheduled.
- Adhere to internal controls necessary for conducting job functions effectively.
Qualifications:
- Preferred college degree.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in claims handling, specifically in automobile claims.
- Experience in handling rental car claims is preferred.
- Proficient in computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Familiarity with commercial auto policies and coverage is preferred.
- Understanding of tort law across various jurisdictions and motor vehicle law is preferred.
- Ability to negotiate claim settlements efficiently and reasonably.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision, with work reviewed for overall adequacy and accuracy.
- Capable of making decisions related to a variety of situations within management limits.
- Ability to develop solutions to a range of problems, typically of moderate scope and complexity.
- Experience in subrogation and arbitration is beneficial.
Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is between $50,000 and $65,000, with the final offer based on factors such as experience and geographic location. Tokio Marine offers a competitive benefits package, including a generous 401K match.
