Position Overview:

The Claims Specialist II is tasked with meticulously screening and investigating multi-line/multi-state commercial automobile claims to ascertain liability, identify coverage issues, and negotiate settlements. This role involves managing a portfolio of commercial automobile claims, including Collision, Other Than Collision, Uninsured Motorist Property Damage, Med-Pay, Bodily Injury, and Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist claims. Effective oral and written communication with clients, claimants, and legal representatives is essential, requiring professionalism and timeliness. Adherence to state-specific Department of Insurance regulations and the company's privacy and data security policies is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit strong telephone customer service skills and demonstrate empathy towards clients and claimants.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks to meet productivity targets for pending claims.
  • Work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Document all verbal and written communications in the claims management system.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate loss reserves.
  • Conduct internal investigations, request police reports, manage ISO filings, and assign field tasks to approved appraisers or independent adjusters.
  • Participate in necessary meetings or court appearances related to assigned claims as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Assess first and third-party injury claims and negotiate settlements within designated authority limits.
  • Prepare Serious Loss Reports (SLR) for claims with loss exposure of $300K or more.
  • Provide detailed guidance to company-approved partners, emphasizing cost control on all managed claims.
  • Prepare file transfer requests to Litigation Specialists when the insured is served with legal documents.
  • Ensure compliance with DOI regulations for the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Keep the Supervisor informed of significant developments in claims.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries from brokers, agents, insured parties, claimants, attorneys, external partners, or internal staff.
  • Pursue subrogation opportunities when applicable.
  • Process total loss vehicles efficiently with the company salvage buyer.
  • Attend all company-sponsored training sessions as scheduled.
  • Adhere to internal controls necessary for job functions and administrative activities.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred college degree.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in claims handling, specifically in automobile claims.
  • Experience in managing rental car claims is preferred.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Familiarity with commercial auto policies and coverage is preferred.
  • Understanding of tort law across various jurisdictions and motor vehicle law is preferred.
  • Ability to negotiate claim settlements in a timely and reasonable manner.
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, with work reviewed for overall adequacy and accuracy.
  • Capable of making decisions related to a wide variety of situations within management limits.
  • Ability to develop solutions to a range of problems, typically of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Experience in subrogation and arbitration is beneficial.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $50k - $65k, with the final offer based on factors such as applicant experience and geographic location. Tokio Marine America provides a competitive benefits package along with bonus eligibility in addition to the base salary.
