Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and maintain client documentation in accordance with industry standards and firm protocols.

  • Engage in firm-sponsored events and team-building initiatives.
  • Enhance your skills in Microsoft Office Suite, accounting software, and other relevant applications.
  • Review financial documents to ensure accuracy in data entry and organization.
  • Work alongside experienced staff to address client inquiries and provide timely support.
  • Communicate with clients under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Uphold the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Familiarize yourself with and adhere to the policies and procedures of Ketel Thorstenson, LLP.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors or partners.

Department-Specific Responsibilities:

Accounting Services:

  • Manage the general ledger and related accounts, ensuring proper documentation of all transactions.
  • Conduct bank reconciliations and verify the accuracy of statements, addressing any discrepancies.
  • Compile financial statements, manage accounts payable, and process payroll reports as needed.
  • Prepare sales and use tax reports for relevant jurisdictions.
  • Assist in the preparation of payroll checks and associated records.
  • Handle W2s and 1099s during the designated season.

Audit:

  • Draft financial statements following the firm's established format.
  • Contribute to audit engagements by documenting specific procedures performed.
  • Engage in planning discussions with your audit team prior to client visits.

Tax:

  • Assist with year-end accounting tasks essential for tax preparation.
  • Prepare individual income tax returns with guidance.
  • Conduct research on current tax regulations to support team decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated initiative and eagerness to learn.
  • Ability to analyze information and solve problems effectively.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work environments.
  • Commitment to meeting compliance and firm deadlines while ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Proficient in standard office equipment and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to drive.
  • Capability to pass background and motor vehicle record checks.

Additional Qualifications by Department:

Accounting Services:

  • Pursuing a degree in Accounting or a related field such as Finance or Business.
  • Preference for candidates with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Audit:

  • Pursuing a degree in Accounting.
  • Preference for candidates with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Intent to pursue CPA certification.

Tax:

  • At least three years of higher education by the start of the internship.
  • Pursuing a degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Completion of Intermediate Accounting 1 is required.
  • Preference for candidates with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Intent to pursue CPA or EA certification.

Work Schedule and Benefits:

  • This is a temporary position requiring 25 to 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday during standard business hours.
  • Internships last between six to twelve weeks.
  • Housing reimbursement may be available for qualifying students.
  • Successful interns may receive offers for future internships or full-time positions.
  • Compensation: $24 per hour for Accounting Services; $26.50 per hour for Tax and Audit roles.
