Role Summary:
This critical position will provide direct support to the Corporate Accounting department at Black Hills Corporation.
Your responsibilities will include overseeing the monthly closing procedures, which encompass consolidation, financial statement analysis, and the examination of account reconciliations and journal entries.
You will also analyze and review period-over-period variances, offering insights into key business drivers to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of accounting records with GAAP.
Your role will involve managing the establishment and upkeep of internal controls while identifying, promoting, and executing continuous improvements and best practices.
You will collaborate across departments to provide insights into new strategic initiatives.Compensation Range:
$110,900 - $183,100 (This range reflects the full compensation for this role. Actual pay may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.)
Reporting Structure:
Reports to Senior Manager, Corporate Accounting
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and/or prepare account reconciliations, facilitating the ongoing enhancement of reconciliation processes to improve month-end closing and financial statement preparation.
- Conduct and/or review variance analyses while providing leadership to ensure the team comprehends key operational and business drivers.
- Manage timelines and deliverables for rate case support, audits, and financial reporting, ensuring the accuracy and clarity of provided information.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies and adherence to GAAP, FERC, and sound business practices.
- Lead and support the Corporate Accounting team through coaching, mentoring, and training, fostering a positive work environment and setting priorities for team members.
- Provide technical accounting expertise and support, proactively implementing new accounting standards and regulations.
- Identify and implement solutions to challenges in accounting processes, effectively communicating proposed solutions to stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or a related field is required.
- A minimum of five years of comprehensive accounting experience, preferably within the regulated utility sector or a publicly traded SEC reporting entity.
Preferred Skills:
- Understanding of how operational and financial decisions influence financial statements, including implications for rate-making models, GAAP, FERC, SEC reporting, and internal controls.
- Ability to collect, analyze, model, and interpret data to assess the accuracy of expected outcomes and articulate financial implications for informed decision-making.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and effectively influence stakeholders.
- Proficiency in data analysis and mining tools (e.g., Excel, Essbase, Power BI) and the application of technology solutions to job responsibilities.
- Encouragement of strategic and innovative thinking to achieve team objectives, demonstrating integrity and empathy in interactions.
- Capacity to identify problems and evaluate potential solutions, assessing risks and making informed decisions with an understanding of cross-functional impacts.
