Lead Child Protection Specialist

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Lead Child Protection Specialist is tasked with enhancing the competencies and expertise of child welfare professionals while fostering a family-centered practice culture that incorporates insights from research and reflective practices. This role involves conducting specialized evaluations and interventions, overseeing case reviews, managing appeals, and maintaining comprehensive case documentation. The Specialist will engage with children, their families, caregivers, and other relevant professionals involved in child welfare.
The Lead Specialist will deliver advanced expertise and provide secondary consultations and real-time supervision; promote staff mentoring and professional development; and spearhead the execution of continuous improvement initiatives grounded in clinical best practices.
Transportation of children is a critical aspect of this position, necessitating a valid driver's license and a readiness to travel, including to rural areas. There may also be occasions requiring overnight travel and early morning or evening commitments.
A solid understanding of Aboriginal culture is essential, along with a comprehensive grasp of the legislative, policy, and practice frameworks pertaining to Aboriginal children, families, and communities. This includes familiarity with the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle and the various programs and initiatives that facilitate its application in child welfare practices.
