POSITION OVERVIEW

The Lead Child Protection Specialist is responsible for enhancing the capabilities and knowledge of child welfare practitioners while fostering a family-centered practice environment that incorporates insights from research and reflective practices. This role involves conducting specialized evaluations and interventions, overseeing case reviews, managing appeals, and maintaining comprehensive case documentation. The Specialist will engage with children, their families, caregivers, and other professionals involved in Child Protection.

In this capacity, the Lead Specialist will deliver high-level expertise, provide secondary consultations, and offer live supervision; facilitate mentoring and professional development for staff; and lead initiatives aimed at continuous improvement grounded in clinical best practices.

The role requires the transportation of children, necessitating a valid driver's license and a willingness to travel, including to rural areas. There may also be occasions requiring overnight work and travel during evenings and early mornings.

A deep understanding of Aboriginal culture is essential, along with knowledge of the legislative, policy, and practice frameworks relevant to Aboriginal children, families, and communities. This includes familiarity with the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle and the various programs and initiatives that support its application in child protection.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Risk Assessment and Analysis: Proactively identifies and evaluates patterns related to risk assessment, articulating expert analysis to enhance practitioner skills. Case Planning Review and Management: Makes informed decisions in the context of reviews and appeals, analyzing case management across the team. Critical Inquiry: Implements strategies for ongoing improvement using evidence-based frameworks across teams and programs, demonstrating broad thinking and drawing on research to support informed practice.
